    AMD X2 3800+ or 620 HT with 7600GT

You see fellas, the problem is I'm buying this new computer and I've already decided on the video card, it had to be inexpensive but fairly good quality, so i chose the 7600GT. Good choice? But now I'm stuck with what computer. The 3800 is of course dual core (Didn't spell it duel like some other fools) but would that be beneficial or a setback. I think the 620 with HT would be a shade faster but would the dual core and the athlon-ness even things out? Both come with a gig of RAM so I'll be upgrading that very soon to 2 gigs and both come with 7200RPM HDD's, the 3800 is 250GB SATA and the 620 is 200GB, doesn't say if its SATA so I'll presume not. So basically from all this, what would you think would prove better at games like BF2 and Ghost recon, the new one forgot what it's called, and such. So what'll it be fellas and please explain why, I'm not that technacial, well I know basics I suppose, but some of the jargon, I'm still oblivious to, like this whole BIOS stuff. But back to the problem at hand, which computer.

The 7600GT is a great card, i have the mobility version in my laptop and i can run all high. I would say the x2 3800+ as it OC's great, runs very cool and is more furure proof. More and more games will come out that fully support dual core (Core Duo). But untill then you can play BF2/Ghost Recon and play music in the bg/be on msn/monitor your temps at the same time. I love the Core Duo in this machine, just wish it was AMD not Intel, but im very glad i got the dual core CPU ranther than single core.

Get the 3800+, it's really no contest. Dual core, plus it'll run circles around the intel proc, especially if you oc it.

The AMd system is hands down the faster computer, but you might want to wait for AM2. The AM2 3800+ are starting to trickle in, buying into DDR2 is the smart move if your building a brand new system.

Alright then I guess you've made up my mind. The 3800 is a gateway, and I've heard nothing really negative about them, and with minor additions it should be find to handle the upcoming batch of games. Anyone disagree though?

My sis bought one of the gateway 3800 machines, its not too bad. Plus their warranty covers opening the case and adding new graphics cards etc.

Thats handy, I've only put in RAM and a 5500 into my ****ty Dell 2350, but then I realised that the dell only came with a 200 Watt power supply. What an overpriced piece of ****. It was somewhere around 2500CDN 2 years ago for a P4 1.8 256 hunk of junk. That really doesn't matter, but I enjoy furthering the hate of Dells

The only problem I have with the gateway is that the 250gb drive is a ide with a 2mb cache, so its kinda slow. The psu is a little on the weak side too, only 300w with 15 amps on a single +12v rail.

You see, i didn't understand much of that, not that its poorly written, but more of the technical jargon. Is a power supply easy to install? I was going to install a new one in my dell, but i was a bit to nervous, so I passed.

It just means that the psu isn't going to be powerful enough for a high end graphics card. I just noticed that her comp does have a standard (looking anyway) 24 pin plug, so any normal atx psu should fit. The psu is only a 20 pin, though.

I don't really know what that means. I do know that the 7600GT needs a 400 watt power supply to be safe, i think 350 was the minimum, would the 7600 work in the computer? Anyone disagree thought that the P4 would be a better route?

                          I believe a 350 watt will work.

What it means is, if you want to get a new card a new psu will also have to be purchased. The gateway looks like it uses a standard plug, so any psu should work.
