Disabling errorcheck to lower pings.

My former computer teacher in highschool once gave my brother an advice to lower the pings- contact our ISP and ask to disable "error check". He said that he has yet to have any negative issues after they did so, so today a letter arrived on my brothers e-mail, saying that error check has been disabled. Looks like he finally contacted them.

What happened is this- We live in Eastern Europe, Estonia. His nearest Steam CS1.6 good server was in Sweden and he had to play with a ping of about 100 ms. After errorcheck disabling, his ping dropped to 17-30!

My SWAT4 server list of USA servers dropped from average 250 to 150!

I have yet to test BF2 yet, however, once I install it again, I definitely will. I still have the demo, so Im going to compare the USA and EU server pings again, since those were always 200-300 and ~100~150 average respectively.

Im not an expert, so I dont know WHAT exactly it is, nor how it functions. Nor do I know the negative issues related to disabling "errorcheck". I do know that I just solved my ping issues and I can once and for all start plying with comparable pings.


I would like some more educated (on this matter) people to give their opinions and extra info about this. Thanks.

heh i have absolutly no clue what that is but i assume that would halve my current ping but i wouldnt like to chance it incase its something important i doubt id see much difference at currently getting 30-35 ping :) in UK servers

I dont think that needs a change either. I mostly play in US servers, almost never in EU ones, when it comes to BF2. So I needed a relief. Also I recently got a STEAM account and I didnt get decent pings (all above 100) in any server in any continent.

Ok, on Demo servers I get a lot <100 servers, which I didnt. I now have normal ~20 ms servers around my area in EU, and USA servers on East Coast offer a sweet 150 ms ping. This definitely works.

Seems to give a good performance boost, but common sense tells me it's important.
