I thenk i heard somewhere that they have the same core as the 4800's, just clocked lower. I could be wrong though.

Yes. Opterons are the same as regular a64 procs, but are held to much higher standards. They are tested longer, and oc much better than your normal athlon.

          Damn straight.

There are 2 types of opty's. 2xx series (socket 940) and 1xx series (socket 939). The 1xx series are exactly the same as A64s, but binned to run cooler, and as a result overclock much higher.

From everything I've seen the Opty 165s still clock better most of the time.

True, but once in a while they don't.

It's pretty stupid to compare the two when a 165 is 200mhz slower than the 3800+ X2.

                      Usually...

                      All dual core 1xx Opterons also have 2 x 1Mb L2 cache.

Sorry ... can't find what you are looking for :(

in a A64 dual core cache doesnt mean really alot as far a performance differences...

If you look at that review of the 165 and 3800 X2 you'll see that even with 200mhz less speed the 165 wins some of the tests. Thats only because of the extra cache.
