AthlonXP v Pent D

Im thinking of upgrading my Athlon XP 2400+ with a Radeon X1300 Pro and replacing it with a Pentium D 2.8ghz with a Radeon X850XT Platinum Edition. Is that a good upgrade?

yep get a AM2 or something, you wil be happier with that than an intel.

umm...i have a limited budget of like $150 lol

i already have the graphics card

i know a AM2 or AMD 64 is good but my parents just wont let me buy it (honestly, i would buy it if could but i cant) so im stuck between either keeping my CPU that i have now or upgrading it to the Pent D (with the X850 i just bought)

Your parents are stupid then and you should just save money now instead of wasting it on a pd.

The CPu you would be getting isnt much better than your current one, just OC the 2400+, use the money you cave on buying the P4 and get a good coller, you should be able to get it close to a 3000+ if your lucky. Then you can put more money into RAM as you already have the card.

i have 1gb PC3200 ram

maybe i should consider buying a 64 or such and my 2400+ is already overlocked.

so the PD is not that much better at all? the graphics card is definitely better though right?

I disagree. Save some money 2 - 3 months and upgrade your computer GPU even higher (or processor). Do you have a job? go get one

How about a Semperon?

You could get a Sempy 3400+ and a decent MOBO for $150.

i heard semps were actually not as good as XP....thats what i heard

between the XP and Pent D, which should i go with without considering other CPUs at this time

So Semp is definitely better than the XP, ok, what about it compared to the Pent D?


I just bought the Pent D and motherboard today along with a x850XT PE, is that gonna be better than my XP 2400+ and will BF2 work? if it will work, will there be any advantages?

ok, i just put the comp together, and i must say, its alot better than my previous system

i did listen to their advice, thats why i delayed in buying it but when i saw test results comparing this CPU with P4s and AMD duel cores, there wasnt much of a jump in performance so.....and it was cheaper
