I agree. Wouldnt it be great if they had a deal where every time you bought an AMD procesesor along with a n Nvidia gpu, you got it for half price or somethin?!?:laugh:

Short term this doesnt help AMD much, if anything it alienates nvidia as AMD's key partner. Long term however, ATI will give AMD the "full package" the ability to supply 1st party chipsets and graphics for its processors. To win more OEM deals, and maybe one day snag an Apple contract, AMD needs to create an independent image, instead of relying 100% on nvidia, ATI, SiS and Via for chipsets.

Once AMD can bundle an AMD chipset, with AMD IGP, and AMD CPU they will be in a pretty good position to infiltrate the business desktop sector and pick up alot more business that Intel is getting. Even if Intel is slower, their image of rock solid stability and entire package goes a long way.

i've always thought nVidia reminded me of AMD and ATI reminded me of Intel... AMD and nVidia just seem so good together... i'd hate AMD for buying ATI...

True, some shared R&D, but i doubt ATI stuff will roll out of AMD's fabs any time remotely close to soon.. (if this deal goes through that is)

Though with third party fabs that ATI uses I'm sure there can be some optimizations 2 or 3 generations after the merger.

AMD can't afford to buy Nvidia, and I honestly don't see how they can afford ATI.

If this deal goes through i honestly am not sure how nvidia would react. Nvidia is one of the biggest suppliers of chipsets for AMD, right now they practically own the desktop, and they have nice offering for servers. It's true that AMD does have its own chipsets (however slightly outdated) and there are others like serverworks who make Opteron class chipsets/HT bridges etc.. but its Nvidia right now who is really blazing the trail for AMD to some extent.

I think this rumor will turn out to be false, but who knows.
