Ram?

Alright guys i have a quick question, in my dell e510 i have 4x256 sticks of dual channel DDR2 SDRAM and im planning on taking one out an adding a gig stick but im not to sure about it. I want to put a stick of this

in it but its 533mhz. Would it matter if my current ram is 400mhz?

ya but im pretty sure it would run at 400, and might not go good with the different speeds, but im not an expert,

I wouldn't recommend pulling one stick out and putting an odd stick in. Your better off using all the same sticks. I would get 2x1GB sticks and sell your 256 sticks on ebay.

u say SDRAM thats all & dated mate u sure u mean that or u mean DDR or DDR2?

Its ddr2.....but would i still see an increase in performance if i put an odd stick in? Also, i plan on getting a 7600gt co and i was wondering if someone could post the steps in replacing a video card. I have a pretty good idea on how to do it i just dont want to screw anything up.

Yes, you will still see a performance increase, but not as big as if you used all the same.

To replace your video card, uninstall old drivers (google for drivercleaner pro), shut down computer, open computer, remove old gfx card, put in new gfx card, turn the computer on, install drivers.

What's the Amperage on the +12V rail?

for the video card you listed (the 7600 GT):

Minimum of a 350 Watt power supply.
(Minimum recommended power supply with +12 Volt current rating of 18 Amp Amps.)

your about 45 watts short

Yes but ive used a psu calculator and you dont have to link it with a cable from the psu so im not sure. I also read in the reviews that a few people have been able to run it on a 300 watts psu.

If not, should i just go with this one?

Your going to take a significant performance hit if you do that. You need to keep both your memory channels even with 2x sticks of the same size. For instance you can have 2x 256Mb on one channel , and 2x 512MB on another. But just throwing in a 1GB stick with 3x 256MB for instance will drop you down to single channel speed.

sure, you can use a PSU calculator to figure it all up, but that's like rolling the dice......

talking from personal experience here:

I used a 5200 Ultra on a PSU with lower wattage than the manufacter recommended. I slowly watched the card fry itself from not getting enough power. Sure, you can run it, but don't expect to get anything real long term out of it. Eventually, the PSU will fail from being overworked, and will come crashing down, and more than likely, taking your whole system with it.

Even though it doesn't need the power connector, it still has to get power power from the motherbaord, then it turn gets it from the PSU. Even with the connector, it still has to draw power from the PSU. All roads lead to the PSU.

Yes, from what I can see, that card is compatible with your PSU.

I guess ill just go with the PNY Geforce 7600GT, play it safe.
