I've been hearing a lot of **** has been going on with the 7900 gt....

does this go for ALL versons of the 7900 gt ???? let me know please cuz im about to order it,

Yeah its a general problem with a lot of the 7900gts (doesnt matter which version)...I got a XFX 7900gt xxx550m and its one of the factory overclocked cards thats been displaying all the symptoms being reported by 7900gt users. Stock clocked cards are prone to the problems too so it seems to be a nvidia balls up,I've seen posts citing problems with a lot of vendors of these cards and its definately not just the sooper dooper overclocked cards from xfx,bfg and Evga that are prone to it...Gainwards has had a few mentions too.

Im waiting to get an RMA authorised to send it back to Ebuyer.

Id keep an eye on the techy news to see when these probs are getting addressed and the working cards hit the shelves....until then its back to the old 9700 and 800x600,everything on low for me :wall:

I's just been a problem with oem's who have been oc'ing these cores too hard, so more are failing than usual. I don't think gainward oc's their cards so you should be fine.

Ive trawled the net on this one and its unclocked 7900gts as well.It looks like a nvidia problem.

thanx for the responses guys... hmmm seems like i gotta wait till they sort their **** out... because ATI has got flickers in most games so im definately not going there.... sigh....

Yup,I'm with ya Red,

Check out my previous post matey if you havent seen it already.

Even putting a ramsink on the power regulators didnt do any help.

When the 7900gt works,bf2 looks absolutely amazing, its just a shame they're pretty much ****ed up at the mo and you have to be lucky to get a functioning one at this moment in time.
On a website I came across there was a guy who had RMA'd his 7900gt 11 times!!!!the average seems to be 4-5 times...you shouldnt have to do that.

Im getting a refund hopefully and will keep an eye on the 7900gt situation.

Its a fantastic card when it works tho.

First-hand expreience here that even stock-clocked 7900gt's can get screwed up. But I certaintly don't think it should keep you from getting one... they are great cards, and the fail rate isn't as high as you might believe it to be. People with broken parts seem to report their experience more often than those with the working ones :)

But you should keep in mind that the three main companies that have been having trouble with their 7900gt's all get it from the same chip manufacturing plant in Asia. Gainward most likely has their chips made somewhere else.

it seems like most 7900 GTs are getting RMA'ed back. Cross your fingers and hope your lucky and get a good one.....

Have you been geting artifacts too with your Evga?

I get freezes+artifacts in 3DMark06, FEAR has horrible performance (average 30 fps on the test now, used to be 57), and other games also generally have worse performance. The stress test in CS:S only gives me in the 80's or 90's whereas I used to get in the 120's. FEAR will also start blanking after I exit it or alt+tab out of it, and I have to reboot. But I have downclocked my memory to 600mhz (1200 effective), and it seems to be stable now, albeit with worse performance than when it was running well at stock speeds.

THanks for the replies... well, i decided to go for ATI after all..... dont know why i just had a hunch... and the x1800xt 512 only costs 300 euro's, but the 512 mb 7900 400..... and i dont wanna take the risk of having a bad card.... i probably have the same risk with ati but ..... ah well :P anyways it should be arriving soon :) ^^ huraya !!!
