LCD overclock

A few years ago was CRT days for me and well i miss my 1600x1200

what happens to a lcd when its asked to produce a resolution higher than its built for eg.my phillips 1905s only goes to 1280x1024 <the piece of crap cost me lots at the time so i dont wana buy one for a while.

The question is does it instantly blow ur monitor?has anyone tried?or would it just go blank with no way to get setting restored?

It won't display correctly if you use a higher res than native. For instance mine only shows a portion of the screen and you have to scroll around to see the whole desktop.

1280x1024 is fine.

On a very old monitor I tried setting the resolution to 1024x768 and it went black . I had to find another monitor, plug it in, change the resolution and plug the old monitor in again .

Yea, I did this to a 20 yr. old monitor and the screen also went black and the monitor made a loud screeching noise. I dove for cover because I thought it was going to explode.. haha

If you don't have a compliant videocard, 1600x1200 also kills your framerate.
