    Questions for the Gurus.

Hey guys, I have seen this posted several times but I don't know if they were having the exact same problem.

After 1.22 my game started to lag. So much so that I was getting between 20-40fps with my setup (see sig) on all high in Full 64 player city maps. The problem would manifest its self right as the server messages and kill list showed up. My FPS would drop from 90-100 down to 25ish and then move around from there. It seems to drop after getting all the server info.

This all happened after one day the game just started stuttering and looking like a slideshow in Multi and single player. After several attempts at certain fixes nothing worked... and one day I tried to play again and it ran fine (except the low frame rates).

I tried a fresh windows install and new Nforce and video drivers, and followed the BF2 optimization guide (i.e. PB sleep, etc). Same problem keeps occuring. I still get 8000+ on 3dmark05 (yes I know its not a very good estimate), and my card runs every other game fine.

Barring some unknown hardware problem that could cause BF2 to run like crap, I am at a loss. I have talked to others with the same card and even lesser cards and they all claim to be getting 50+ FPS, like I used to before the time around when 1.22 came out.

I get no other crashes in windows or elsewhere, memtest passed after a 24 hour test, my card never tops 70*C in Oblivion, and never tops 60*C in Bf2 according to Rivatuner. I have even tried lowering all my clocks down to stock and still no improvement.

    Help!

No one else is having this problem?

Do you mean like hardcore lag when you first start the game? Cause if you do I get the same problem. You said you have reinstalled everything... and same problem then I guess you can blame the patch...

      Not quite...

There is the normal stuttering for a few seconds when starting my first round once starting the game. But when entering a game it starts off at a great ~99-100fps, then when it loads all the server info (i.e. kill list in the top left and asks what kit you want) it drops to 30-40fps. Whenever I die and see the sky it still stays at ~40fps. My 6800GT did better than this. I used to get 70-90 and the occassional drop to 60, but now its ~40 with drops into the low 20's.

Does the game really require that much video memory? Could it be that my volt mod for the memory be causing it and other games aren't as vmem hungry?

It really seems like a memory issue because when a bunch of stuff is loaded up, it has the biggest problems. When flying or playing in open maps such as Wake 2007, it is always above 60fps. Ground pounding in 64 player maps with a bunch of stuff going on is the worst. Fewer players seem to equal 2-3x the performance.

well, on any system you will see a performance drop while playing on a full 64 man server, just the sheer amount that the computer has to keep up with will cause it!

If you've done some pretty hardcore modding to your videocard, it's hard to say.

But I'll certainly say one thing: if your system has a weakness, BF2 will find it.

Well as for the 64 player servers taxing a system, it sure does, but it used to run at 60+fps at all times with arty dropping and a huge battle raging for a particular flag... Now it drops to as low as 20fps.

Well I just get like uber lag at the start of the game... I dont know why I turn down my Grphics settings because I thought its trying to load too much too fast but meh nothing still mass lag at the start, but.... I find out once the lag at the start is over there is no more for the rest of the round. My PC thinks like "Well we migh as well use all our lag at once"

Every system does that. If you read the initial post you'd realize that everything you said there is completely non-sequitor.

Could a problem with the motherboard cause this kind of problem?

Oh yeah, I also have started up the computer 3-4 times in the past few weeks and it has given me screen corruption. Could my voltage be screwing up my video memory so that it will slow down BF2 but not other games?
