I set up my new PC installed everything (games, OS, AV etc) and the CPU always runs at 100% on just normally running. I don't understand why as running the same programs on my laptop (1.5Ghz Celeron M) uses only around 20% of the CPU.
Ok found it (Program call winXPZeroConfiguration or something like that - used 98K of Ram and 97% of CPU), it and disabled it and now everything is fine (I had looked in processes but hadn't looked in the CPU column - stupid me). System idle processes seem to average around 40% of CPU power, is there anyway to reduce this? Running a virus scan now to see if it picks anything up.
Normally running is Firefox, IRC, MSN Messenger, ICQ, AIM, iTunes and various others such as Limewire, Outlook etc. Haven't checked it during games although everything runs fine.

Grrrr... Limewire. I swore to myself to never install limewire or any P2P program of that matter onto my newly built pc. I have various anti spyware and virus programs, but it seemed that every time i downloaded a song or some vids, i got a trojan.
he has socket 939, and depending on the mobo that could mean he would have to get an Athlon X2 dual core, not a pentium D. and just so ya know the athlon x2 is better than the pentium D, and intel even admitted it.
Wrong, that all depends on the distro. After installing FC5 i havent had any problems with it, in fact I get more problems with windows than I do with Linux.
In my sig(ubuntu link) there a link to my linux desktop. Linux is different than windows but you have much more control. Most of the applications I use on windows are ported to linux. Also the command prompt is easy to use after a while. It just takes time and patience. Oh yea, no need for an AV or firewall. I still use a built in firewall though.

Can you not see my sig? I run FC5 x64. I know linux and know how to use it. Basic tasks have improved lately, but advinced stuff is still eaiser on Windows.
