Is a CPU temperature of 57C good and can I further OC?

I overclocked my 2500+ barton ( with AMD heatsink) to 3200+ @ 57 degrees Celcius Ambiant and I wanna milk my CPU for the most powerful & to a somewhat stable point.

Should I further Overclock?

Is 57-62 degrees celcius (@ ambient) too much for my CPU?

Hell yes. I'd say anything above 45 ambient on an amd proc is dangerous, 57 is suicide.

Get a new cooler or downclock, thats waaaaay to hot for a cpu!!!!

So what is the temp when you put some load on it with a program like prime95?

with prime95, mine gets up to about 38C, I'm not oc'ing though.... I think 45 or so should be a reasonable temp. under high load w/ oc.

Don't listen to the other replies, they got no knowledge about the Barton cores. I do, because I got one myself.

The thing can safely go above 70 (at 85 it restarts, at 90 it dies), but I would take 70 as a maximum.

My own Barton runs around 45-52 idle and 58-62 stressed, on the old cooler it got even hotter. While the 64's can easily run at 25-35 and shouldn't get above 50, the XP is 40-55 normal and 50-65 safe.

The AthlonXp's are just a bit hot in comparison to the new Athlon 64's, but they can handle a lot higher temps as wel.

So your temperature is perfect, but don't go much higher.

CPU work at there peak capactiy between 32c and 40c pushing it to 50c or 60c isnt good for it, a Cpu will fry itself (like catch fire) at 90c

I agree with Saruon, I also have my CPU over clocked and as long as you slowly creep it up (the OC) you will lock up before any real damage is done. Be aware though at the extream high end you can actually blow the top off the chip, I know Ive done this. I embedded the top half of a pentium chip into the acoustic celing tile at school (electronics school) while running at 7 gig with freeze spray (freon). It was a simple matter of changing the timing crystal out, but thats another story. I would also say you will shorten the life span of any CPU by Over clocking it, however Ive never heard of a home PC that had the CPU die from old age.
The short version is, if it is running ok, you might go another couple of steps up and be OK. I wouldnt though as I believe you are about at the safe limit on the high end. . . . . . .Red

I tell you again there is a major difference between a AthlonXP and Ahtlon 64, I bet most of you have never used a AthlonXP let's stand check the temperature and even more overclock it.

A AthlonXP is a hot thing in comparison to those new 64's, but it's old...it runs 50C standard with the boxed cooler...it's made for that. I think a 64 runs 30C out of the box.

Read some advanced OC sites, they will approve what I say. Ofcourse the next level CPU's run on lower temp, but unfortunately those things are 3 years old and therefore don't.

When my room is around 72-73 F my comp idles at 28C and full load it's 39C. When my room is almost 80F my comp idles at 38C and full load at 44C.

Get more fans or invest in some artic silver for that cpu heatsink w/upgraded heatsink. Hot = no good.
