Yes, I just built the exact same system practically and tested it out today, bf2 runs so smooth maxed out. The only difference is that I have a 200 gb hard drive and an asus a8n-sli motherboard.

No prob. as for your other question, I had a notebook but I sold it, now that I built my own desktop I am glad that I did. Even though they say these new notebooks are upgradable, (and they are), its just that it costs way much more than upgrading a desktop and the parts are harder to find. I had an ati x800 mobility in my notebook and wanted to upgrade to 7800. It would of cost me $1000 bucks to upgrade. I built this system I have now for $1200.

I had a notebook that was the same way, and like you did, I sold it. It wasn't worth it to upgrade.

No, it depends on if the game likes him. I have a stock 7900GT beating Overclock and I get a high of 60 on close in battles, usually sticking around 30fps.

Max settings, 4xAA 8xAF @ 1280x1024, will net you 75-100FPS constantly.

One thing to note... why the Via chipset? Sort of a weird choice, i would personally recommend an Nforce4 based motherboard.
