Experts Advice please>>firewalls<<

Hi
Im a bit confused and also want to know what everyone else uses:p

ATM im using norton firewall and nivida at the same time
Some are saying WINDOWS is the best?should i turn nivida off as i only used it as part of 6.7 driver package.

should i use norton or windows then?seems i have 3 to choose from

advice please
p.s i get connection lost all too much too:cry:

64bit.amd3200,nivida4 motherboard,7800gtx,2gig ram,512 adsl

some say the gigabyte nivida4 boards are not good (network connect)

From what I've heard, and I don't know about nvidia, but the windows firewall doesn't block outgoing things. So if something is already on your PC, it can still send information out. I was told by a mentor when I was getting my A+ certification, that you can't go wrong with the free firewall called ZoneAlarm

Blocks both incoming and outgoing. I get unknown connections blocked all the time. It's a little harder to set up than the windows firewall, and you get popups quite often with games when you first try to connect, but once it learns, you will have no problem with it. Games run fine, even servers, if it's set up correctly. Can't go wrong with free. BTW, I used to use Norton's firewall, but had trouble running some stuff like emule, and when my subscription update ran out, I thought I'd try ZoneAlarm. So, that's what I recommend.

easyest way possible get a router(with NAT) wired/wireless

nat just allows for logging of ip's for others in the home ie exteranal users will get denied for if you choose a wireless router, living in a close neighbourhood, ive got a router myself and having no problems with it and the firewall in sp2 adds that little bit xtra

Exactly what i use, Built in firewall in my LinkSys router..then have the basic windows firewall for a backup precaution...and It does warn / ask for access on outgoing, pops up with a little dialouge asking me if i want to block/unblock/tell me more Options. As for wireless routers ive had nothing but trouble from them, besides..whats wrong with a few hundred feet of cable running throught your house, at least you know its secure

Unless ofcourse you have young children running about that have access to sharp objects :evil:

Yeah, I forgot. I use a hardware firewall in addition to ZoneAlarm. It's a residential gateway. But a router would be good. So hardware is best, then for software, ZoneAlarm. Some people may think that's overkill, but software firewalls have blocked so much for me, especially when you have ports forwarded through your router's firewall.

you should definitely get rid or Norton, probly try ZoneAlarm. Norton uses up lots of processor stuff, and ram and basically bogs down your computer, and ive read lots of threads about people who had your same problem, but as soon as they got rid of Norton and got somethin else they were problem free.

BTW, I use BitDefender and I love it, but if you dont wanna buy it I'd say use ZoneAlarm

I used a variety of things, sygate works, keiro was wonderful, outpost has been awesome I just have a thing against zonealarm, it's been nothing but trouble for me.
