That card should have no issues running near to maxxed out.

You really do need to lose that 2100 though. I'm shocked it even runs.

Have old is your system install?

With the results you're getting, I'd lean towards the card being too highly clocked.

Also the 70C is high. Can you try to verify wether it' ssystem or card?

In the nvidia driver panel, you should see a link to temperature. Run the game, then very quickly flip to this to see the temp.

EDIt - when you mention chip with no fan, do you mean there isn't a fan on the CPU heatsink? I hope not! If so, get a heatsink with fan for that CPU!

The cpu has got a heatsink and fan on it,no worries there...the chipset im on about is on the mobo towards the bottom partially behind the right side of the vid card,its got a gold coloured heatsink on it and its about 5cmx5cm...i think this is our 70c culprit

The vid card temps whilst playing bf2 (when its not screwing up) are usually in the low to mid forties degrees c.

System install is around 5-6 days old.

speedfan says:

FAN3: 0 RPM




temp1: 25c
temp2: 24c
temp3: 70c........with a little flame icon..gulp!
temp: 1c
HD0: 24C

I read somewhere these heatsinks can get a little hot under the collar but safely so.

Im running ati tool at the mo..pressed the 'scan for artifacts' button and its been going error free for over half an hour.Is the 3d cube supposed to spin round because mines not moving,thats normal right?

Is this gpu fried then?

Theyre right next to that gold heatsink thats on the mobo and thats quite hot,not as hot as those regs tho.

Well thats the problem then. Try getting a small BGA ramsink or something and stick it on there with some thermal tape.

I don't think the GPU is fried, but the heat is causing artifacts I would guess.

If the problem still persists after you add a heatsink then you should RMA that puppy.

Ill look into that,would adding a ram sink normally void the warranty if i had to return the card?

Also somebody said in a thread i came across (might have been in your link..sorry my brain's as screwed up as that gpu at the mo) that once you get artifacts the damage is pretty much done.

Also got bf2 up to 1024x760 btw with no corruption..this seems to be the limit.

You can add ramsinks, you aren't removing any stock hardware.
Use thermal tape and take the sinks off before you return it. When you take them off do it right after you shut down and the video card is still hot. This will make the tape come right off.

Im on the new system now just surfing the web..should i turn it off just to be on the safe side even tho im not going to be playing anything graphically intensive until i get those ramsinks on?

The issue should be fine in 2D apps.

You will want something like these:

I know BFG has some pretty good ones. I had bought some to stick on my aging 5200 U about 6 months ago, and had enough left over to stick some on my 7600GT. It lowered the temps a couple degress C and allowed me to oc the ram just a wee bit more.

The zalman sinks are just below btw.

They dont mention BGA tho,is that a specific ramsink,if it is I may have goofed.

Yeah, but you can put any ramsink on it. BGA is just square.

I have a 7600GT and run 1280x1024 on a mix of medium and high.

Just turn dynamic light and shadows to medium at most. These are HUGE frame rate killers when on high.

AMD 64 3200+ @ 2.43Ghz
2 gb of RAM
eVGA 7600 GT

and I run on max settings at 1024*768.

Getting the sinks tomorrow along with another stick of 512 mb pc3200 ram (I'll dump those pc2100 sticks to be on the safe side).

Ive been trawling the web after you guys pointed out these 7900gt problems and I cant believe how widespread it is. Xfx seem not to acknowledge there's even a problem and apparently some folk think they've closed down their forums because of it! And their double lifetime warranty doesnt apply to UK either.

If its no better after tommorow maybe i should be looking at an evga 7900gt as I read today that they're doing something about it (probably sticking a ram sink on it lol )

there is a certain part of the video card on the eVGA 7900gt, that if you stuck a RAMsink, or at least pointed a fan at it, would reduce the artifacing, tearing, etc.
