    Asus A6ja

    Hey,

I am going to be ordering a new laptop soon, but I need some help with the specs and such.

Will the ASUS A6JA be able to run BF2 at good settings and maintain a good FPS? It has the following specs:

    Centrino Core Duo technology 1.83GHz
    1024 MB RAM
    Radeon X1600
    100GB 4200RPM

I think it's a pretty good setup, except for the quite slow hard drive, but I will be upgrading it later this year. I will also buy another gig of ram, but should one gig not be enough to play BF2?

    Looks good.

1 GB is good for mostly medium settings and some on high. For all high settings - especially textures (which you might not be able to run) you'd need 1.5 - 2 GB of RAM.

Aha, so if we pretend it has 2GB (I might be able to get the dealer to stuff 2gigs in it), would I be able to have textures and shadows on full? And what resolution did you imagine I would run on in your last post? It would be nice if I could run it in the monitors native res (1280*800), but I can go down to 1024*768 if neede for performance.

      Thanks in advance

Edit: Oh and, do you think that the only 4200rpm HD will have a large impact on loading times?

Yeah, with 2 GB you will be able to run on full with little to no stutter..but if you leave dynamic lighting and shadows on high, you'll likely dip into the low 20s or high teens in heavy firefights...and that's at 1280x800. So, you'll be happy.

You'd be very UNhappy with 1 GB when you saw the insane stuttering while trying to load high textures.

The 4200 rpm HD WILL impact load times, but that is not significant next to in-game performance, IMHO.

To help with load times, I recommend mounting a mini-image to bypass the CD/DVD check (and to save wear and tear on your original).

Not being a laptop gamer myself, that is the BEST I can answer your questions..I hope it's enough

lol, it sure as hell is loads of help. Noone else has helped me with this, so I'm very satisfied with you.

I will try to get the store to put in an extra gig, but they might not do it, and then I'll buy it seperate and try to figure it out.

If my laptop comes with 2x512 (which it very well might, but I'm hoping not), will BF2 run well on 1,5GB? Or will I have to buy TWO new 1gb's?:hmm:

            1.5 GB is sufficient

Yeah, 1.5 GB seems to be the sweet spot ... and a LOT of people have had input on this matter. 2 GB is better but the difference between 1 and 1.5 is HUGE and between 1.5 and 2, less so.

Okay, so to sum it up:
If I have 1.5 GB I should be able to run it at 1280*800, with most graphic settings on high, except for dynamic lighting and possibly shadows, while still keeping a good framerate?

Yes..that is if my assumption that the X1600 performs around the same level as a 6800 nvidia card.
