    widescreen monitors

    Hello all,
Sorry if this topic has been discuss before, but I did a search and didn't really find out what I was looking for. I finally ordered a new 19in. widesceen monitor lcd, " still using a 15in. compaq monitor that's like more than 5 years old. " I was wondering if anybody out there is using one to play bf2? If so could you tell me did you need any 3rd party software to get it going or if it worked right out of the box. Any info would really help me. I really only play bf2 and on some rare occassion play some dod, so if you play hf2 does it support it also. Thank you very much.

add "+szx <width> and +szy <height>" to your BF2 shortcut's command line (without the quotes).

For instance mine looks like this:

      "C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +widescreen 1 +szx 1680 +szy 1050

                Re: widescreen monitors

I recently added a 26 inch wide screen LCD TV to my system as a monitor. It works great. The only draw backs if there are any is I have to run it at 1280x768 and it automatically streches the screen for BF2. I dont see these as real problems but some might. I went with a TV instead of a monitor because It was about 500 dollars cheaper to do so.
The brand I chose was a syntax Olevia LT26HVX it has better specs than some LCD monitors and I paid $574.00 at Tiger Direct. I have had it for about 3 weeks now and have been very pleased with the way it works with BF2.
If anyone else wants to get a LCD TV for use as a monitor you need to remember that TVs have a minamum viewing distance. I believe that the formula for min viewing distance is 1.5 times the screen height. My screen is about 22 inches (viewing area) tall so min distance from the screen is about 33 inches. If you get closer than that the picture will seem to bright and less detailed than it should and may even cause headaches.
I just thought I would throw this bit of info in because that when I was looking for LCD TV info I couldnt find any here. Also I used a price compairson site (price grabber) to get the best price and they often have user reviews included. That way you can see what people who bought the product think. . . . . .Red

                    Re: widescreen monitors

Thanks guys, recently switched to widescreen and that was bugging me. One question: BF wouldn't run set at 1024x640 or 1168x730. I got it going at 1280x800 but I might need a slightly smaller res for my vidcard to keep up (though I'm not going to go all the way to 800x500). Anyone know another setting that works?
