No...the latency is HIDEOUS as uploads are handled by a modem via phone line.
Your pings would START at 500 ms or likely even MORE!
I looked into satellite when I moved out into the boonies here a few years ago.
I use wireless via Motorola Canopy 5.7 GHz. Speeds are excellent and latency is fine. Built-in latency of around 5-50 ms depending on your provider and radio manufacturer.
Plus..I got my internet for free because I retransmit internet signal to my neighbours

yea, I remember hearing horror stories about dsl when it first came out, having to use a 56k connection to upload.Comment

Even IF uploads were done via satellite, the distance travelled would STILL give you a super high ping...likely in the 1000s of ms!!!Comment

Yes, playing anything faster than chess is impossible over a satellite connections.
However, consumer sat-connections do not use the satellite for the uplink but a ordinary landline (V.9x, isdn, ect). In most cases the user has a option to disable the routing via the satellite temporary and ONLY use the landline. That will give you the needed connection latency (more or less) but not the bandwith that is needed to play BF2 properly ... so ... to put in in simple terms "you are screwed"

What kind of wireless are you guys talkin about~?
My wife has Verizon High Speed Wireless Air Card for her
laptop, and the speeds are worse than Dial-Up. Slow is
considered High Speed apparently?
We have a squad mate that lives in the middle of somewhere,
and did not have access to DSL or Cable. He went as someone
else suggested previously, and maybe even what the next comments
were referring to. Radio Transmitting/Receiving from a landbased Transmitter/Receiver. There are providers out there that handle
this type of thing.

I'm talkin about a dish on a tower with a radio that transmits and receives that points out to an access point tower/backhaul many kilometers out that eventually leads to fibre .. and that is where you get your internet from.Comment

I live way out in the boonies also but I'm lucky there are 2 wireless providers here to choose from. I was on 1 the tower was 7 miles away worked fine then another ISP put a tower in my niebors back yard about 300 meters away it is cheaper so i switched, I get 1.5 Mb down 256k up for $32.50 a month. It either that or 26k dialup on a pair gain system.Comment
