Ping Problem

The past week I've been having lag issues, due to high ping. I usually ping around 40-70 but now I ping at a almost, constent 120 - 160 on both BF2 and on Ventrilo. I've tried rebooting my modem totaly, and unplugging and plugging the ethernet cord back into the wall but nothing has worked yet I'd appreciate any comments or ideas you guy's have.

Definately sounds like ISP issues.....check speed on the above like or www.dslreports.com - and maybe run a tracert or 2..

One other thing though - do you have a wireless modem? Even if you're hard-wired, you need to make sure that the wireless network is secure so that a neighbor isn't leaching any bandwidth from you...

Download pingplotter from www.pingplotter.com and do a few traces to major sites like google and microsoft and then to a few BF2 servers and you should find your problem...

Called your ISP yet?

Please do a tracert on google and post the tracerts.

open up a command prompt and type in tracert www.google.com

Easy as that.

Check to make sure that your system is not sending out stuff that you are not aware of. This will also cause ping increases if your outbound line is busy.

Make sure you have a full firewall running like ZoneAlarm or something like it that checks both outbound and inbound traffic (widows firewall does not check outbound).

Check your run section of the registry for program loading up on startup. You can use something like hijackthis or startuplist from merijn if you are not comfortable using regedit. But remember with regedit, changes are saved instantly so there is not going back if you change the wrong thing. Backup first, then make changes only that you understand.

Run Spybot S&D to find junk that you dont want running or tracking your internet usage.
