A few gaming rig questions regarding... eh.. timing?!

I want to get a proper gaming rig but I have a few doubts before I spend something around 2000-2500USD ...

-I heard that AMD is coming out with new and better stuff this summer. Is this worth waiting for or will, for example, a 4800toledo be 'seriously whipped' by, for example, the end of the year?

-Will waiting for Vista, Divx10 and some other items, like graphics processors, make me get more 'bang for the buck'?

-Anything more I should concider/investigate/wait for before planning my new system?

Fyi I'm currently using a Dell Pentium 3.4, x800xl and whatnot...

Wait about 8 months before you really need to upgrade. Most next gen stuff will be out by then.

It's DirectX10, not divix.

AMD's new socket will be rolling out over the next 3 weeks. Intel's stuff should be out a little later than that.

Performance wise s939 vs AM2 will be very similar, but if your doing a fresh upgrade it probably wont hurt to wait 3 weeks, then decide if you want the newer AM2 or more tried and true s939.

As for DX10 it depends, a DX10 card will be more futureproof, but thats a double edged sword. It will play next gen games... but will the eye candy be at acceptable framerates? Historically that is not true. Its like buying a R8500 for the "futureproofing" of PS 1.4 and then 5 years later trying to play BF2 and finding out you get 25FPS on lowest details.

DX 10 video cards are 6-9 months off in my estimation, if your buying soon I wouldnt wait.

You should wait, imo. personally, i'm waiting on Vista SP1 before start dumping new money into a fresh build. then again, i'm not a 1337 pr0g4m3r, and i tend to value money.

I got a ok rig that playes BFR2 on all Med at 1280 by 960 85 Refresh rate. I was thinking about spending money on new upgrades but i figured i would wait for Vista and the DX10 **** with the new Processers.

Anything else to keep in mind before ordering these new stuff whenever?
