yes, that recommended list is over a year old, the x1800XT did not exist at the time, therefore is absent.

realisitically, if you are purchasing a card that costs more than 140$, and isnt an FireGL or Quadro it will work...

Meh. I wander through best buy once in a while. The "tech gurus" there mispriced a returned p4 2.4 w/512mb ram and a 120gb hd as a celery 2.4 w/256mb and an 80gb. Whoever bought it first had disabled "autoplay" and returned it because the DVD-RW was "defective" (*chuckles*). The other comp was the same make and very similar models (both Medions), but totally different guts, and I got it for $440--the price of the cheaper celery, minus a discount because it was an open-box return.

Oh yeah...and that was back in '03 when a 2.4 was still a great processor and 512mb was freakin' pie-in-the sky.

So, now I love best buy. They can be stupid, in the greatest of ways.

First of all, my apologies if I come across harsh, but think about this. If you card is on the list, and it's NEWER and more expensive than anything on that list (chances are, most of the bottom 20 COMBINED) then BF2 WILL RUN. The recommended cards basically says "cards with power ratings of 20 and above will run, these are the cards out right now that are 20 and above".

If I'm not sure about something from newegg, ALWAYS look at the reviews, If its popular there seems to be always somone there that bought the part and tested it in BF2.

Other Thoughts: Got 8800 in 3dmark 05 with omega drivers, amd 3500+ oc'd to 2.4gz, 1gb ram. My games include: NFS:MW, FEAR, oblivion, Quake IV, COD 2, and BF2. Runs all but quake IV on highest settings. But I wish I would have went for the 512 version.

I would imagine your experience to be anamoly. Case in point, hop on their website and look through their graphics cards. You'll find some old low end cards selling on there for ridiculous money.

ohhh myyyy ggoossshhh dont get me started on overpricing and scams.
time for me to vent on you guys (sorry this is offtopic, just related to overcharging)

so frys overcharges a little more than newegg, and compusa not only overcharged they charge more than frys.

for example a 3200+ at frys would be 215$, at newegg it would be 198$, and at comp usa it would be like 240$. this is of course old prices but just an example.

GPU's are frys are also overcharged more tha nother products, and at compusa they like double the price. like a friggin 5700LE costs around 200$ its insane!!!

so this one time (not too long ago) I needed a new psu, and I decided to go with a BFGtech psu. they had a 600w and a 650w and the only place I could buy it was comp usa. all of the items on their website were supposed to be at the store. the 600w was 130$ (not too bad) and the 650w was like 160$.

so i go to the store, all i needed was the 600watt because my computer wasnt demanding THAT much power, just more than 500watts. so I brought 145$ (to compensate for the tax) and looked for the 600watt. I found out OH MY GOD they happened to be out of it, but instead had about 10 of the 650watt's in stock! so he tried to recommend another crappy one, and I said no so I ended up wasting 180$ on a PSU because they didnt have the 600watt i needed. gg. anyways im sorry im just overreacting but w/e.

anyways, i dont even remember what this thread is about. hmmm (scrolls up) oh yes, the video card. yes, as I said and laike said, use common sense.
