Quick Memory question

Ok, basicly, I just wanted to know about the table at the bottom.... Does this mean my memory can either go Higher frequency but lower timings and vice versa? If so which way is better? It is currently set at 200 mhz with looser timings..... I just recently explored my bios and I am trying to learn about OC'ing/tweaking, etc.

Yes you can run at faster speeds if you loosen the timings, and vice versa. Faster speeds with loose timings is better than slower speeds with tight timings.

It means that you can set your SPD timings to two different settings; 166MHz with faster timings, and 200MHz with slower timings (I think that what you said too, heh).

200Mhz and slower timings are better, IMO.

Those are the recommended timings at whatever speed you want to run the ram at. The ram can however be tested and run at tighter timings specified by the manufacturer. For example my ram speeds in that table are 200mhz @ 3-3-2-8 timings but are in fact rated to run at 250mhz with those timings by Mushkin. Those tables are pretty meaningless. Just go by whatever the manufacturers rated speeds and timings are.

Also, whats 1T/2T mem. timings? Mine is currently set to 2T....

Thanks, my motherboard is not of very high quality so it's probably not a good overclocker or anything... The only settings I can set is my FSB or....

K8<->NB HT speed
NB-->SB HT speed
NB<--SB HT speed
K8<->NB HT Width
NB<->SB HT Width

I know what the NB/SB and stuff stands for, but I have no idea how to set them.

Those are meaningless for performance overclocking. Those settings are dictating the hypertransport speed and width to the north and south bridge. Dont mess with those settings, and also take note that they are not the overclock settings your seeking.

Ah, so if I wanted to raise my multiplier or just my operating frequency of the CPU itself, I'd have to get a different mobo? If so, what mobo's do this?

You can't just raise the multiplier, that's not how you overclock. Most multipliers are upward locked.

Ok, I've been reading up on OC'ing and I think I understand it decently.... But which multiplier would I lower to keep the HTT from going too far over 2000 while raising the reference clock? Would it be one of those K8<->NB things?

You would change the HTT multiplier, from the default of 5x to 3x or 4x.

Again, dont mess with the NB settings, those have nothing to do with overclocking the CPU.

In the bios it's usually labeled LDT or HTT multiplier. You will want to set it to 4x up to 260mhz HTT, and 3x if you go above that.
