Top Dogs: Compare your rigs here

Now that I've finally got my computer partially tamed, I'm curious what kind of peformance the other top dogs here are getting. I am fairly new to extreme peformance gaming and I guess that my standards have been set pretty high. I'm still aggrivated that my 120fps in a game can still drop down into the low thirties or even worse, though of course it's just for a few seconds. On hand I'm wondering if there's still a problem, and on the other, I'm figuring it's bad game coding in those sections and there's nothing that can be done. Now don't get me wrong. This isnt' a thread asking for help. Basically, I'm looking to get a comparison of some of the best rigs on Totalbf2.com and get some discussion going about the problems we still have. My rig is in my sig, as I'm guessing most of you'rs will be too.

So... time to discuss!

PS. I'll throw the subject of 3DMARK scores out there. I haven't had a chance to check through the official threads yet, but I've gota sneaking suspicion that I'm either the top scorer or at least in the top 3. Anyone score higher than me?

I can run BF2 maxed out and i get a solid FPS, Ive never been bothered to check but its never dipped down to unplayable and its silky smooth. Ive never run 3DMark on this rig either.

Send me your rig over and ill "test" it :P Ill send you back a P2 and youll never know the difference.

AMD 64 4000, 2gig o ram, 2x 7800gt's A8N SLi Premium 30" Dell monitor, none of that fancy oc'ing and i aint getting on me hands and knees for the rest :p but i thought it right to start with what people would like to read first.
3D mark 05 9960 default test.

Not the best rig by far by im a retro thinker and when i got it going on a year ago i wanted value for money which means i have to still post in this thread....

I went with a prebuilt system this time around (monitor came later), ive built a far few systems in my time but ive never been 100% happy they did what i thought they would do. A lot of that i put down to my interest in the specific project and over hyping them in my own mind, it was nice to get a box out of a box and for it to perform perfectly, ive yet to even look in the bios and ive only opened the case occasionally to smile at the componants- its like being on holiday.

Ive had it down to 0fps in BF2 on a few occasions and running well into a swapfile, however its nice to know at what point its beaten- 2560x1600 max settings. HL2 Lost coast is better but not entirely stable, but wheres the fun if you dont find the limits.
I find alot of games are not written with widescreen or rather higher resolutions in mind and that the great makers have forgotten the past and got lazy as texture and poly limits have risen. Its a fear i have about 64 bit computing, 32 extra bits of dribble just as a lot of memory and performance is eaten by 'i couldnt be bothered' textures and models. In the realms of SLI resoloution is important and i dont feel games are taking advantage of the dual card system as they could do.

Problems i still have.... hmm, well the intake vents on the case are full of dog hair and i cant see a way around it... unless someone lends me a gun.

It's really not a good comparision for ATI vs. Nvidia since the settings are inherently different. My settings:

1680 x 1050
All high settings
4x adaptive AA
8x HQ AF

50-100 FPS

Before I got my widescreen montior I was running:

1280 x 1024
All high settings
6x Adaptive AA
16x HQ Af

50-100 FPS

I would say they are right up there with Crucial ballistix.

Right now they are the best overclocking 1Gb modules with tight timings I've seen hitting 280-290mhz at (3-3-2-5) timings. I paid about $260 for mine from Newegg, but I don't see them listed their anymore. The current batch of which I have a set were the best overclockers so far. I'd have to ask Dounger if any of the current batch of CE-5 are available anywhere. Let me know and I'll give you the inside info on where to buy a good overclocking set if any are available.

Yeah, I know. I just don't see the need to. Is there a way to uncap it where I don't have to do it every time I play?

With BF1942 and BFV with the buddylist I could add a command line to the list which would uncap the FPS or do whatever I wanted at the start of a map. Too bad they took that feature out.

no but typing game.lockfps 0 doesnt seem so hard heh. I do it simply to enjoy my peak fps numbers. It's an epenis thing I guess. I know it doesnt make the gameplay any better and i'll still dip into the same lows, but it's great to see 250fps with all high and 1600x1200 =P


And dunno what you mean by MadMax but no. I make $9.25 per hour. Not like I'm rich, it's just what I put my extra money towards. Funny part is, my computer is very close to matching the value of my car lol.

Specs and 3dmark are in my sig.

I run 1280x1024 85hz refresh rate with vsynch on

4xAA, 8xAF and multisampling transparency anti aliasing enabled.

I get roughly 60-85FPS for the most part, there are ups and down, but nothing too drastic, its usually very stable and gameplay is damn near flawless.
