poor performance on 7900GT

i recently bought a XFX 7900GT Extreme Edition and i dont think it running anywhere near as well as it should be.

Im running the game at 1280x1024 on all high settings apart from textures which is on medium and 4x aa.

in a full 64 player server my fps ranges from around 25 fps to about 90 but it averages around 30!

surely this cant be right! i could get this kind of performance on my old 6800.... am i expecting too much from this card or is my system bottlenecking it? ive got a amd athlon 3000+ @ 2.2 and a gig of ram

i left the textures on medium because i only have a gig of ram and i thought it should be ok like that. the game doesnt stutter at all it just doesnt run as fast as i think it should.. anyone got any ideas why its running so bad?

Three possibilities come to mind. First one is that you didnt connect the extra power connector to the card and its running at lower clockspeed.

Second is user error with some sort of mistake with the drivers or settings.

Third is some other random hardware or software incompatibility.

Bottomline you should be getting very high 90FPS+ framerates for the majority of the game.

the extra power connecter is plugged in, just double checked to make sure

it is running at the correct speed i think its advertised as 520/1500 and in my nvidia control panel it shows as 520/750. is that correct? i understood it was supposed to show half of the actual speed it runs at.

im currently running the latest official drivers but i will try some others, any you recommend?

When installing a new video card or upgrating drivers, always use the free version of DriverCleaner in the upgade driver process. You will avoid a lot of probelms.

well i just downloaded driver cleaner pro and got rid of all nvidia drivers(i still had Nvidia chipset drivers off my previous mobo lol) i followed the instructions in the readme and then installed 84.43 drivers.

joined a full 64 player server and my fps was the same if not worse.... averaging around 25-30 fps

just dont know whats wrong..

anyone else got any suggestions?

Sometimes the make is as big as the wattage, if its a lower budget PSU watch out.

im currently downloading the latest chipset drivers and il see how it goes. if i cant sort this out il try a complete reinstall of XP.

i dont think its a psu issuse, ive has this for a long time and ive never had any problems with it, if the nothing else works then i probably will get a new psu at the weekend, it cant do no harm.

if you could pull it out or open up the case and see the make of the PSU i could tell you if its that or not . i mean as it is 450W is cutting it close . but if its a decent one with good amperage then it will prolly be ok.

could we get full specs on the computer?

and it looks like the psu is a crappy 1 its some random Q-Tec 450w dual fan psu.

You need 2 gigs to run high textures usually. Thats for starters. Also, I think your CPU may be bottlenecking it further. But I'd say def. upgrade the ram.

I'm pretty sure you're supposed to re-format your hard drive when you get a new motherboard.... Also, get another gig of RAM...You're CPU is perfectly fine. I have the 3000+ venice running at stock with an X850XT and can run all high in 64's and still get at least 40-50 fps.
