FPS Issue?

Hi, ok well i just got a new laptop and was wondering a few things.
Here is my laptop specs:

*P4 640 w/HT Technology (3.20Ghz)
*1024MB DDR2 Ram (Dual Channel)
*100GB 4200Rpm HDD
*ATi Radeon X600 (256MB)
*800Mhz FSB

BF2 FPS: 20-40

Ok, i got Bf2 on the weekend and i love it, however i would have thought that i would get slightly better FPS than i currently do (20-40FPS) Especially as i already play the game on Low/Medium settings.

Also, slightly off topic, i get very low FPS on Oblivion, possibly 10-20 FPS, with most on low.

Now, im positive i have no imminent spyware,adware,malware or virusses as i scan with a few programs almost every two days.

*Also, when i look on task manager, and click on performance, i see 2 CPU usage boxes.. im guessing this is from the HyperThreading.. is that right??

Ok thanks, i did wonder why i was seeing two cpu boxes.

Ok, well i just got the laptop.. for a scary amount of money and upgrading is not an option...

so two more questions if you please:
*if i WAS to upgrade, what would be a good card to upgrade too that isnt too expensive?
*is there anything i can do, to increase performance?

To answer your first question: sorry, I don't own a gaming laptop so I'm not familiar with how you can upgrade your laptop video..but I'm betting somebody else will provide you with some info.

If you contact your laptop manufacturer, you should be able to get a list of upgrade options.

To answer your second question: optimize the HECK outta your system.

Sadly i have already used all of those tweak guides, before i was on 18FPS-26FPS
So, what i was thinking was two things.
*Would turning HT off help performance ( i have heared this before so was just wondering)
*Would running BF2 in high priority help?

Some people had suggested disabling HT in the BIOS...benchmark it and see. It won't hurt anything. And you can always turn it back on if you don't like the results. I could never test it on my system because I am AMD based.

Also, some people find they do get an FPS in all sorts of games when they increase the process priority. Again, this won't hurt anything..BUT, if you have background applications that you rely on to play BF2, you may have problems. For me, my USB mouse, USB keyboard, and Nostromo n52 all become unresponsive as the applications they need to function are struggling for CPU cycles.

Yeah, i have a USB mouse.. but its a pretty low frequency.
The only problem i see is maybe if the built in wireless begins to struggle?

Getting a new video card for your laptop is gonna be hard. First you need to ensure that its not attached to your motherboard (locked). Since its an ATI x600, i bet its not. Then you need to find a new card that fits into the same hole. The card cannot use more power (unless your psu is strong, something i severely doubt on a laptop, and it cant produce more heat. As a better card would usually do both these things, its gonna complicate it even more. Laptops aren't built for upgrading im afraid.

Ask the laptop manufacturer, they can give you a better answer than i can.
