Custom Built $1000 Gaming PC

I just sold my notebook for about $1200 on ebay, and I plan on building my own desktop for a little less than that. Using newegg.com I picked out:

ASUS A8N-SLI Socket 939 Nvidia nForce4 SLI ATX AMD = $ 102.99

AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ & BFG Tech Geforce 7900GT 256MB Combo = $566.00

1GB OCZ High Performance DDR4 Memory = $101.99

200GB Maxtor DiamondMax 10 7200 RPM SATA 3.0GB/s = $79.99

Antec TRUEPOWERII ATX12v 550W PSU = $89.99

Antec LifeStyle SONATA II Piano Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case & NEC 16X DVD+-R DVD Burner Combo = $132.98

Total = $1073.94 plus S&H...

I hope to play BF2 all maxed out. Anyone have any better suggestions?

Edit: Oh you mean DDR400.

Anywho I'd reccomend 2GB. 2GB is a must for all hgih.

yeah. Those settings will play bf2 maxed. But if you want some smoother gameplay go with 1.5 or 2 gigs of ram. I dont know what is ur budget so i cant pick one out for you. But if you want to overclock your ram go with the xms series. Other than that your system is great.

Yea, I meant DDR 400. I plan to upgrade to 2GB after a few paychecks.

Get the 2GB right off the bat, you dont want four sticks of ram, you want two.

I'm with you 100% on the case, Antec makes awesome cases. I have the Performance TX640B and I love it. All their cases have great airflow and aesthetics, and they're built like armored trucks. I hate when people build a great system and throw it in a no-name soda can case.

yeah, go with 2 gigs. You will be much better off, and wont have to worry about any jerkyness. As for me, i still get some jerkyness at the beggining of rounds.

Ill vouch for 2 gigs of RAM too. In vanilla BF2 1gb is ok except for the first few minutes but in SF I used to get a shiz load of jerkyness. With 2 gigs its as smooth as silk.

I'd recommend 2 gigs of RAM too. My old system had 1.5 gig, and i know my new rig is better anyway, but 2 gigs makes it soooo smooth!!

After playing for a couple of hours ( i have everything set to high!!) when i check my total RAM usage for the session it regulalry rises above 1.5 gig.
So for high setting 2 gig is essential, not just optional
