Whenever I start up a game my computer always revs up and builds up until it sounds like a damn jet engine, you could hear it from quite far away, travels through walls. Anyway so what is causing it and is there anyway I can make it a little less noisy, I mean if im playing a game I have to have sound real loud because I can hear the sound of the computer roaring louder then game sound.

Have you opened up teh case and given it a good clean recently/ My little sister's pc has a habit of that, and a good clean usually fixes it up.Comment

do you have heat sensitive fans? there are some out there that spin faster, and get louder as the hardware gets warmer (which can happen when it starts to work a little harder to run a game like bf2)
my video card would make a louder noise when i played HL2/CSS, because i would play those on High settings....but doesnt make any noise when i play BF2 cuz i put everything on low/mediumComment

Fans or CD drive. Eject CD as soon as noise starts to be sure its not just CD.
Fans noise you are quite stuck with unless you buy quite ones.
Sound like they may be loose or you bought second hand parts from a wind tunnel, easy fix can be as simple as tightening the fans screws, but fans can be rather loud anyway.Comment

ty, but the computer is completely stock all thats been done to it is another 512MB of RAM. Yes I give up on cleaning out its always full of dust, I don't know how to prevent it, waste of time if I clean out it comes back nearly right away.
I booted up F.E.A.R. and it did the loud noise, I ejected the disc and it still left it with that noise.
When I minimize it seems to go back to normal.Comment

I hear you man :). I had that problem 1.5 years ago. For gamers, the noise is always coming from the same thing: the fans. Case fans, CPU fan, Video card fan, Motherboard fan.Originally posted by Eternal-Souljah
I resolved the problem by FIRST buying the most amazing case in the world (wow come down BIC, it's just a case). Well this case is very silent. Go here to know why.
I also use now an AMD CPU, they don't heat like Intel, so no need to have noisy fan. If noisy Intel, buy a third party heat sink or quite fan for CPU.
If your video card fan is the problem, look for thrid party fans that you can install on your Video Card. They are ussually better to refresh and they are a lot more quiet.
There is also very good CASE fans you can buy for your actual case.
Now, wwhen I buy a computer, I always buy quiet stuff.Comment

More than likely it's your CPU fan. P4's-- especially at 3.4ghz get really hot. I have my 3.0ghz P4 overclocked to 3.4ghz and I have a Hyper48 cooler on it that keeps it running cool, but the fan noise is really annoying when I'm gaming. If it was steady I wouldn't mind so much, but it's always spinning up and down and up and down, pretty irritating. There's not much you can do about it besides looking for a cooler that has a good balance of cooling/noise. There's not many but they're out there. If you have some money to spend I would look at liquid cooling.Comment

Fans on my cards make relativly no noise, it the big suckers at the front of the case that takes the plaster off the wall.
What is your fan set up set up? List em.
Depending on what your doing (overclocking?) and what your average system temps are you may be able to simply unplug the (case) fans, imho a lot of fans are indulgence (and cheap to add to prebuilt systems whilst representing apparent value for money) rather than necessaty, especially where the case allows for ample air flow. Micro case, add wind tunnel, full tower barebones add an exhale once a fortnight.Comment

Instead of a new card you could look at an aftermarket cooler for your current one. I have a zalman cooler on my 7800gt and it cools awesome, at low rpm you can't hear it, at the highest rpm it's a little noisy but definitely not annoying. But I would definitly look at your cpu cooler first, if you hear the fan when you first start a game, that's when you cpu is working more, not the gfx card.Comment

Try putting the PC on a desk, instead of on the floor. It'll help cut down alot.
Even if it comes back immedietly, you have to clean it anyways. Dust clogging things up with jam fans, making it grind louder and be really annoying. Also, dust will raise the heat in your case, which is bad anyways. I had a friend, her son doesn't like to clean out his PC, his video card clogged up so bad, it literally crapped out his vid card.Comment
