    GeForce 7600

Does anyone here have any experience with this card? I'm planning on getting myself a new card, and this card came up as a option.

What i'm especially interested in is this card compared to the GeForce 6800 GT 512 mb. They cost about the same (7600 is a bit more expensive). The 7600 has a faster gpu, and is built on newer technology (i think, since its a newer card), but it has less ram (256 mb).

I would have bought myself the 7800 or 7900 cards, but they are way over my budget im afraid. If i later wanna upgrade, i could just buy an extra card, and sli connect.

Any experiences/recommendations? Any help is welcome.

And remember...getting an extra card for SLI does not double performance...it's only a small percentage compared to the cost of a second card.

I'm of the mind to go for a good single card, and only SLI if you're loaded.

Although im not an expert at this, it does double your performance. The cards work on second each image, and the ram doubles. It might not double the performance, but at least it gives it a 50% boost. Check around on some 3dmark sites, and you'll see.

50% boost is not double...and, even then, I think a 50% boost would certainly not be worth double the cost.

7600GT is faster than any 6800 series card, hands down no questions asked.

Now about SLI, Snowcontrol your expecting the most optimistic performance projections out there. SLI in all honestly gives a 5-35% improvement in most real world cases, from what I have read. At normal gamer resolutions such as 1024x768, or 1280x1024 or even 1600x1200 SLI isnt going to give 50%+ performance, in some games there will be no improvement, and in others it will be small or even negative improvement.

Only with high AA and AF and a high resolution 16x12 or greater is my rule of thumb, will SLI really shine, and even then its double your money for much less than double performance.

..buying a graphics card these days can be a VERY difficult decision to make.

So yeah, multiple sources will certainly help you make your choice.

It is a difficult decision, indeed. But i do think ill go for the 7600. If i do happen to get accidentically rich within the next years, i'll just sell it and buy the 8700 (its bound to come, isnt it? :P).

One more thing: What graphichs level can i play on with the 7600? I am seriously hoping to play it at high...

7600GT is the best ~$200 card

                  7900GT best under ~$299

                  x1800XT 512MB best ~$330+

                  x1900XT best ~$400+

It depends on your price range frankly.

I was playing all high at 1280x1024 on my 6800GT 256MB AGP card...so you'd BETTER be able to play on all high with a 7600

My price range is around 200 $ at the moment. And an ATI card is out of the question, i've had too much problem with them earlier. I now run an ATI 9700 card on my laptop, and i really hate it. The card works well and is quite powerful, but it ****s up way too often. I know that this is a normal error with this card (9600 and 9700 as far as i've heard), but im still a bitt ****ed off when it comes to ATI cards now.

Isn't that pretty low for a 7900 card? I got 30-50 fps with my old ATI 9700 card at medium (no AA though), and thats a very bad card.

i also have a 7600GT and i play all high with 1024x768 resolution.

the 7600GT is the best card that is not in the 200 dollar range. on newegg i think it is $180.

Im getting a new comp quite similar to yours, amd 3700+, 7600gt, 1g ram, and a coolermaster power supply (dont remember watts). I havent calculated the price to usd, my currency is NOK (Norway). Its about 1700 NOK for the 7600 gt.
