HELP! Monitor won't turn on at boot

Omg happy mothers day. Ok heres what happened. Around 10pm est I was playing bf2, got done at eleven and was using the internet. At 11:30pm est I shut the monitor off(leaving the computer on). Now when I woke up this morning, I turned the monitor on but all I got was a black screen. So I rebooted and still black screen. I swapped video cards but no avil. But when I unplug the monitor cable from the video card the monitor turns on. WTF?!

Have you turned the computer completely off and booted from cold?

Do you get any error beeps when you turn your machine on?

Have you checked (and wiggled) the video cable at the back of your monitor and at the back of your PC?

Do you have another monitor lying around? It would be nice to know if it's your video card or your monitor acting up.

Ok I fixed the problem. The cause was overheating the video card(which I think fried it). I had OC'ed the card to the max(temp around 68 C) and I guess it was too much. So now i'm running on an mx 420 untill I get my new 6800gs in. Do you think I will be able to use my other 6600 again or is it fried?

6600s should be able to get a lot hotter than 68C. How long were you running it at its max overclock, and did you try running it at stock?

I usually leave my computer on all day. yes I usualyl keep it stock but I wanted some added performance. Anyway the card looks toast to me

Btw, if you wanna upgrade, go for the 7600GT instead of the 6800. Its got newer technology inside, and doesn't cost much more.

68C is not hot at all for a GPU..... I consider 68C to be pretty decent for a video card....

I only have agp, I have wait till next year to get PCI-E
