    PSU help

    hey, some basic info so you get the context:
    my PSU: ultra 500w x-finity
    i have two 6800 gfx cards, a amd 3200+ at +10% CPU voltage, my ram at 2.8v.
    plus a hard drive, sound card, cd drive and all that. (see sig for xtra info).

    well since I am asking a lot of power from my PSU for OCing and stuff Im thinking its dying because:

    during games, CPU intensive things (such as photoshop) and all that, my PSU makes a faint - to - no-so-faint buzzing sound. and sometimes even when Im not doing anything intensive.
    1. is it dying, is it just the fan? (btw, every now and then I BSOD with the error "machine_check_exception, i heard that that could be related to PSU?)

    2. if it is, which of these would you recommend. (remember, im inpatient, and I want this as soon as possible so I dont kill my pc trying to play F.E.A.R. also keep in mind I will be doing the same overclocking as I am now)

      antecs are good and this time get a psu thats like designed for sli and is 600 watts.

          If I were you I'd steer clear of Ultra.

          I've got a 520 Modstream, but it's an older one, I hear the newer ones are having some really bad problems.

          That newer OCZ GameXStream one looks promising.

              why steer clear of ultra? (i decided im going with the 600wat BFG, but still why stear clea of ultra?)

                  Because they've been knows to have crappy PSUs. Not to mention the ultra you had is dying on you.

                  I'd also be weary of the BFG until you can find out who actually makes it.

                          Hey about that modstream is it any good i was looking at it, also is it big, or can you give me the length and all.

                              Like I said the newer ones seem to be having problems. Length is roughly 6.5"

                              EDIT: Looked at some more recent reviews and looks like they have straightened out the problems. Must have been a bad batch or something.

                                          Well im planning on upgradin my ram and video card so here it is now
                                          ram: 512MB, what im planning on getting: 2Gigs
                                          Video card:Radeon X300SE, planning to get Geforce 7600GT

                                              Those are the older Ultras that suck. The x-finity flex and x2 x-connect are good.

                                              The power supply may be pushing the system, but I would try removing a video card. If it is the problem, replace it with an Antec 550W+ or GameXtreme 600W. Antec will be the better deal and is SLI certified.
