Well that depends, there are a lot of variables involving both your TV and graphics card. Here are the options, your hardware may not support all of them:
-S-video out on your graphics card to s-video in on TV
-DVI to DVI between your PC and TV
-VGA to VGA between your PC and TV
-DVI on your PC to HDMI on TV (required DVI to HDMI cable)
-HDMI to HDMI between PC and TV (would be very rare to have this)

Bascially, S-video will be the most common connection most graphics cards and TVs have. If its a new LCD TV it will have a HDMI port, so you would need a DVI to HDMI cable.

But really, your question is not very specific, if you can provide any more information then I might be able to help a bit more as the settings on both your PC and TV could be any number of a hundred things.

Thanks for the reply sorry for not been more specific about the tv. The problem is i do not have the tv but im considering buying one. Ive seen the dell 30 inch pc monitor for around £1200 and was thinking for that price would i be better getting a tv and connecting that up to the pc. If you know any good lcds for pcs please post them also would there be a difference in quality between say the dell 30inch monitor and like a decent 32inch tv.

I just dont want to get the dell 30inch although it looks great and then realise for the same money i could of got like a 42 inch plasma.

Just remember the Dell is a monitor and not a TV. The Dell will kick the pants out of the TV for resolution but you do need a nuclear powered graphics card to play games at the monitors native res. You also need a dual link DVI capable graphics card (not the same as haveing two dvi outputs) to allow for the res- which may be another cost for you.
If your into graphics, modelling etc the uber res will put more of a smile on your face than a 42" TV.. essentially if you watch TV more than you play the PC go with the TV. The Dell doesnt come with the connectivity of a TV either which is also a bit of pain.
If you can see the Dell in the flesh and ask you self how practicle 2560*1600 actually is? The 24" Dell is a more practicle for most PC use.
