$1500 budget

I have a $1500 USD budget for a computer. What should I get to play bf2? I already have a vx922 monitor.

Thanks for the help twsmit. Is that motherboard model right? I am having a hard time finding it. Maybe it is the asus a8n sli premium? or dfi nf4(which model)?

Im pretty sure its the a8n SLI your looking for, so youve found the right one. The DFI Lanparty NF4 series is good too, just make sure you buy an SLI model.

Either one is good, but the Asus is probably what your going to want.

Regardless of budget what would I need to run everything at ultra high settings? I think the vx922 lcd averages around a 7ms response time. Most crt monitors, I read, are below 5ms.

For that money I would buy a X1900XT, 1000 more and you can buy 2 of them and a crossfire mobo!

I've got a 1300 dollar PC that I have ordered/am still ordering.

Monitor: 19" ViewSonic LCD
GPU: ATI X1800XT 256mb
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 Venice 3200+ 2.0ghz (a great OCer)
HD: 250gig 7200 rpm Western Digital Caviar

If I just do a $1000(flexible) upgrade what will give me the best performance upgrade(s) for bf2? Should I switch to an AMD based system? I can add any of the above parts to the upgrade budget. The biggest issue I have now is lag on servers. What is a good US east coast server to test my connection on? I am in Maine.

I am currently testing a 2gb dual channel 800mhz kit but it is overheating my northbridge. I do not know alot about cooling. What should I do about it? new mobo with better cooling?

I dont know much about computers, but i do know that it will really help having 2 gb of RAM to play BF2 maxed out with less loading time and creates smoother gameplay.

Switch to an AMD platform, get an X2 or an opteron 165. If your getting problems with the RAM after you have a new build adress the problems then.

Why not get a 4000+ sandiego core (single core I guess)? In an xbit.com test I see it close to doubling my intel 650's bf2 performance at medium settings.

Last time I checked people dont game at 1024x768 unless they have crappy hardware, and with your new monitor your going to be playing 1280x1024 anyways.

A 4000+ is a nice chip, but its old hat, dual core is not exactly smoking for games, but it provides a nice overall boost for windows, and allows you to have more background apps/spyware /utilities in the background (wow like a normal person, the review sites never take into consideration that normal people have background apps running in their tool trays)

Anyways, the X2 3800+ and single core 4000+ are pretty similar, and you can always overclock the X2, but you can't magically summon a second core for the San Diego.
