    Please Help!

I have searched through tons of forum posts on multiple sites but I can't find anything but cookie cutter answers so maybe you computer whiz's can guide me in a better direction. I can't get BF2 to work in online play. Every other game I play works fine and single player BF2 works fine, but as soon as I join a multiplayer map I can take about 5 steps and my whole system freezes and locks up. Here's my system info:

Operating System - Windows XP Media Center
    Motherboard - ASUSTek A8N-SLI DELUXE
    Processor 1 - AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3800+
    Processor 2 - AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3800+
    Memory Module 1 - 1024MB DDR PC 3200
    Memory Module 2 - 1024MB DDR PC 3200
Video Adapter - NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GT (256MB)
Sound Adapter - Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 zs
    DirectX version 9.0c
    250GB Hard drive

If anyone could help me I would appreciate it so much...It's so aggravating not being able to play BF2 online. Oh and I have all my drivers updated and I turned down my sound acceleration and changed the in-game settings but nothing worked. Thanks in advance.

    Whats your internet speed?
Also are you able to play on a local server (multiplayer -> create server (or something to that extent))

      Re:

Well I created a server and it ran fine but I was in there alone. As far as internet speed I use a wireless adapter with cable internet. the adapter says 54 Mbps although im sure if thats what you mean. If it is an issue with my internet service would it lock up my entire system though? I can't even ctrl-alt-del out and the sound just repeats until I have to hold down the power button.

try plugging it in with ethernet cable and see if that makes a difference, could be your wireless.

Ha ha. Wireless wouldnt do that. Good grief. Internet speed? Your computer is totally locked up because your internet is too slow....right. ok.

Try to lower some of your sound and video settings just to check. Use low software sounds and 800x600 low detail to see if that is the problem. Also double check and make sure there is not a ton of stuff running in the background.

            Re: Please Help!

Ok. I just tried it again but froze up still. I have the resolution down to 800x600 and everything else on low or off including the sound options and I join a multiplayer map with only 4 people on a 16 player map and still froze right away. Also I only have the normal system processes running. 99% is idle before i open up BF2.

              Re: Please Help!

I have had that problem before. It was related to too much overclocking and heat with my ram.

Do a few things first. Make sure BF2 is patched to the lastest version, and update your video card AND motherboard drivers to the latest off the nvidia website.

Next make sure your running stock speeds and not overclocking. Additionally you will probably want to seek out the AMD dual core patch from AMD so that your dual core doesnt cause issues.

              Try that.

                  Re: Please Help!

Youre a genius! Ive had issues with the dual cores once before. I just hope that the hotfix will work out. I downloaded the hotfix from

                  http://www.amdzone.com/modules.php?o...ticle&sid=3964

and followed the instructions on editing the registry but im a little confused as to if I am still supposed to contact microsoft for another patch or was the download on that page all I needed? Also since I have dual core processors should I enable the multi-GPU scaleable link interface(SLI) or disable it? I tried running the game online once more after just getting the download from amdzone.com and editing my registry and leaving SLI off and I froze up again. If there is another patch I need, could I get someone who has it to email it to me?

Alright I have been searching everywhere trying to resolve this and came across this thread

                      *Link Removed...see below*

Does this sound like bull**** to anyone or am I really just SOL?
Is it possible to disable one processor so there is no conflict? I have no idea what else to do.

Oh ok, well here is the basic gist of the thread:

"Battlefied 2 hard locks almost everytime a I play. After a bit of research I found this is most likely because my GForce 7800 GT is sharing an IRQ with my SB Audigy 4.

I have an SLI set up. And here is the IRQ info

At this point I don't know what do try."

"After doing some reading on both the Nvidia boards and the BF2 boards this is not a Nvidia,Alienware,Creative problem, this is a problem with the game. So any thoughts?
