Norton SystemWorks 2006

i have decided that Norton Sytemworks is a bit of a pain and probably reckon BF2 will run better without it. I have a fairly good system (see sig). After searching there seems to be plenty of Norton haters here, but i wondered if there was any1 out there that had done the uninstall....Am i going to get a significant performance gain in BF2? Also i have gotten used to some of the utilities what do u recommend instead???? I will get AVG instead of NAV but what about utilities like Windoctor, or Cleanup??

Am doing this cos i want BF2 to run top notch and my mate who has a similar system (without Nortons) seems to run more FPS with BF2....What do you guys reckon?

I did an uninstall of norton system works o5, for the same reason you are doing it. I found that AVG free works much better, and it wont popup everytime ya open a program. Also used much less resources. Go with it.

Damn I havnt used the bloatware Systemworks for about 5 or 6 years.... It truely is bloatware.

That being said, I was an avid Norton Antivirus user until a few months ago, my subscription to NAV 2004 expired and since year 2006 they wont let me reregister even if I format my computer.

My university provides McAfee Enterprise AV for free and I went with it. So far so good, and I think its pretty light weight from what I have noticed.

Honestly though, Virus' are a thing of the past for the most part, thats not to say they wont be around, but people are more than likely going to get spyware since thats where the money is.

Using a NAT router, Firefox, blocking cookies, and not opening attachments will probably cut down on 99% if the potential virus' you might get. AVG is good, but I find the interface clumsy, I would personally recommend a light weight AV, practicing safe computing like using Firefox and not surfing underground Pr0n and warez sites, and things of that nature :) and getting free utilities that do the same thing as Systemworks.

I havnt used systemworks since like 2000, but the last I did it had a "defragmenter" and showed things such as temperatures, and fan speed, and allowed you to unerase stuff in the trash can.

Most of those functions can be found in smaller lighter weight free programs.

Nod32 and Avast are two VERY slim virus protection software. I personally use nod32 because it has 64bit support and avast doesn't. AVG is pretty slim too.

Most of the gamers I know swear by nod32, but I really like Trend Micro's av offering.

Ok, excellent thx for the advice. What about a replacement for Norton Cleanup...which removes all internet clutter and unwanted internet files..Is there a free alternative?

^^^^^^ CCleaner is what I use to cleanup.

AV - Avast x64 free
Spybot S&D free, imunize and scan
Ad-aware free, scan
SpywareBlaster free, imunize
Windows Defender BETA x64
and I browse with Firefox and my system stays squeaky clean.

Last week uninstalled Norton (paid for & up to date) from a friends laptop installed AVG free it found and removed 6 TROJENS, I've removed Norton from many machines and 9 times out of 10 they are virus ridden, Norton is bad mmmmK.

avast has 64 bit window support been using it for quite some time now
