    Is SLI or Crossfire a waste?

    What is the point of SLI? It only improves performance by 30%, not a 100% . So you spend $550 X 2 when a new card will come out in a year or so and will blow both of those cards out of the water and it'll cost $550. IMHO, SLI = waste of money.

    I have a 6600gt, a 6800gt will take on two of my cards no problem.

    You only need it when you have 30" monitor that a single high end card can't handle alone.

      I agree in most cases SLI is a waste.

        QFT. Its essential for high resolution gaming, but for the average person stuck at 1280x1024 its a total scam. Upgrading to a signle video card every 2 or so years will net much more performance in the long run that SLI or Crossfire.

            I think sli is a joke. I get 40fps avg at 1600x1200. Just wow

                You don't need high resolution gaming. 1024x768 works great and 1280x1024 is perfect for todays graphics. SLI is only good for future upgrading.

                  okay
                  var card = 1;
                  var gaming = card;
                  var ePenis = gaming + card;

                  function SLi() {
                  card = card x 2;
                  }

                  if (card == 2) {
                  document.write("your online penis is =" + ePenis);
                  }

                  your online penis is = 4!

                      Not even good for that really. By the time you need to add a second card, much better ones will be out.

                          If the trend continues like it is one current gen card of the same grade (ie last gens GT vs this gens GT) will rival an SLI setup of last gen.

                          With a single card there is less heat and I would think less bugs, but I could be wrong there.

                          I will say that I think its useful for somethings like workstations, or high res gaming on things like Oblivion.

                            it may have it's purpose soon enough. Remember, nvidia is hoping to have physics.

                            For those who don't understand:

                            Nvidia is trying to get a rival for Ageia's Physx. If you have 2 cards in SLi, in theory, you could run 1 for graphics, and 1 to calculate the physics. Last thingy I saw said this would only be an option for those with 7600GT+ in SLi mode.
