    Question about my GPU

I am running a 6800GT OC and its idol temp is around 74-76C and then during play it reaches about 84-87C. After reading around the site I have realized this sounds dramatically high. I dont know what it should be running at or how to make it less hot (other than under-clocking). I havent had any problems until recently, the game will crash to the desktop randomly on me. So will Counter-Strike: Source, & F.E.A.R. Anyone know what I can get it not to run sooooo hot?

    My System set-up:
    Pentium D 3 GHz
    1 Gig Ram
    Nvida GeForce 6800GT OC 256mb

Well its got the stock case cooling, and then the stock graphics cooling. You think I should get additional cooling?

what fans u got in the case?

U want to have a fan at the front of the case intakng cold air into the case, & a fan at the rear exhausting the warm air.

If u can get a side fan also pulling air into the case.

        like this..

You might also want to try buying a different cooler for your video card if getting some extra exhaust fans for your case doesn't help... Also, make sure you vid. card isn't clogged with dust...

Well I have a Gateway and it has a fan in the front and then the exhaust fan and then the fan on the GPU. What type of cooler would you recommend for the card?

well heres what I would do (or u can only do the second I dont care)

              1. downclock the card to the non "OC" version, like regular clock speeds. thats one huge reason.

              2. my friend has great cooling in his case and two 6800gt's and they get up to 100c. the 6800gt is known for getting very hot over time epsecially if its OCed. I would go with a cooling solution for it. here are time I think would be good.

some of those take up more space in the case then other so make sure you know that.

Sounds like a plan I think I will go with the first one. Reviews look good on it. Thanks a bunch guys!

I'd recommend going with the third one instead. It sounds like you don't have a lot of good airflow, so a DHES would be better. The Zalmans are overrated where the VF700 performs worse than stock cooling. The Accelero will give the best cooling out of any VGA cooler.

^ you have a somewhat point. but the accelero is not the best. and the zalmans are good...

Uuh, the Vf700 outperforms any stock solution by far.

As long as you get yourself some decent case cooling, like another 120mm fan for both the front and back of the case, the VF900 will be your best bet.

                        Not the stock X1900 cooler.
