Brand new computer runs like poop

One of my friends just build a brand new system... specs...

AMD athlon 64 3700+ (slightly oc'd)
GeForce 7800 GS
3 GIGS of RAM(see below)

For his BF2 settings, hes got the first 3 on medium and all the rest on low on 1024x768 and gets low FPS... NO AA and AF. He used to have 2 GIGS of RAM and when he tried putting the 3rd one he noticed a small performance increase.

I decided to go on his computer with remote assistance to help tweak a little bit... The first thing I see is anti-spyware programs all over the place doing scans constantly.... So I thought, DUH!! This is going to be easy!. I clean everything up nice and tidy, Installed McAfee, and removed spyware with Spyware doctor. He says he noticed a pretty good perormance increase, but still gets around 30 FPS on those settings....Mostly he laggs in the same areas. Somewhere wide open or on USMC carriers. Something is obviously wrong but I don't know what.... Any help appreciated...

Drop the extra gig of ram and set his ram timings back to 1t.

Also make sure he has the latest chipset drivers as well as video drivers. Alot of people forget to update chipset drivers.

Another thing to double check is that he doesnt have any custom video card profiles, or isnt forcing some kind of aggressive setting such as supersampling AA or trillinear filtering.

Make sure the RAM are the same types... and just let the setting in the nvidia console be "application preference".
