X-fi would be a better choice.

Audigy 4 is just a more expensive slighly better sounding Audigy 2. The X-Fi is an actually "new" architecture and is the better buy IMO.

yea, IMO if you can't ge the X-FI, go with an Audigy 2. That's what I did!

I made that exact move because I didn't want to pay for x-fi. Perhaps thats my mistake but anyway. You will find certain games will have support for hardware sound with the Audigy 4 over the Soudblaster, two examples I can think of are BF2 and Quake 4. Also it "seems" to generally improve sound quality just a little such as in music. I may be wrong but I think the audigy 4 will also do DVD sound, while the soundblaster does not, which may give a boost in that department if you are interested.

Yeah, if you prefer absolutely no driver support for almost a year then X-Fi FTW!!!

Avoid anything SE/DE/LS from Creative as none of them will have hardware support for 3D and EAX, it will all be done in software. The only exception to that rule is the Audigy 4, it comes two ways, OEM and SE. The OEM comes with a remote, and the SE doesn't. Other than those differences, they are both the same card.
