So the system in your sig you don't actually own... Just something you made up...

I'd wait and build your own, and not claim to have things that I don't....

That $1600 figure may buy even better components in a couple-three months. As always, all the new tech on the horizon may cause a substantive drop in prices in the near future.

Unless you're getting some SPECTACULAR promotional deal you'll almost--ALMOST--never regret waiting on almost any ~$1,000 purchase in the tech market.

I'd wait just to get a better video card. That 6600 will be really huffing and puffing to keep up in 18 months.

gee, that was kinda' harsh, man. nothing wrong with offering a representation of a concept: call it a theoretic prototype!

i hate to break it to you, but the kids that post the half-naked chic-pics in their sig? they don't own..."that", either.

It isn't common practice to put a pic of your girl in your sig, it is however common practice, in a computer forums such as this, to put YOUR computer in your sig.

As I said the norm is putting your rig in your sig, so it is assumed unless otherwise stated...

But whatever, if you want to pretend you have that computer then by all means...

Yeah, I'd wait if it's in/will be in your budget. Just the difference between the 7900 and the 6600 would be night and day. Then add the additional ram, etc...and you'd be gaming happy for a long while with that setup.

P.S. I've got to look around for clipper ship to put in my sig. I need to make lil' jimmy think I own a tropical island somewhere.

Wow this thread went a little off topic there. lol.

From my experience i'd normally advise building your own, not just because you can save a bit of money, but because..........well.................because you can, and also for the satisfaction of knowing you built it!

                      Re: What would you do?

                      BYO only way to go.....

the only advice i would give is to go for Raptor's in a raid 0 .... you will definatly notice the difference.

get a decent PSU not the usual crap the pop into cases.. get a case without psu and get a hiper 580 (the ocz one you list seem ok but you can always use more power)... ive got one and they are a dream to install and come with all the leads you could ever want. and its very very quiet.

get some decent thermal paste too spend a few quid on that it will pay off i assure you.

one last think .... how r u cooling it and what case r u popping it into ?

                      raptors
                      Hiper 580W
                      arcticsilver

                        Re: What would you do?

I think ill need the storage and not the speed... The 16mb cache maybe equialent to the Raid 0's speed in some cases...

Also i have looked at the hiper 580W PSU and was cosidering it but they dopnt have it where im getting so the 520W will be fine :)

Also if i DO build it i will have al of the the money by June... cause im a student

Don't forget to check with your school's IT department (or school store, in some cases) to see if you can get a copy of XP through them. I got office and XP pro (both OEM) for $36 each because my school has a licensing agreement with microsoft.

The OEM licensing program is supposed to entitle licensees (me) to free upgrades to the latest version (Vista) , although the implementation of that benefit of the program probably depends on how tech-savvy and/or vigilant your IT department is.

edit: and a 520W psu is more than enough. Unless you're running SLI, dual cores, and maxed out on devices/peripherals, you will never push your power draw nearly that high.

I have a version of XP already here XP Pro and can install whenever i want...

I know people who can walk me through the installation etc.

So that saves me 170 canadian for the install etc.
