Is this a decent hard drive.

Is this a decent hard drive for me. I only have IDE ATA 133 and 100. Is this about the fastest they will get for me? Is it like the fastest for us ATA users?

9ms average seek and 16mb cache.

They are not bad.

SATA 150's are faster. IDE 133's will be around for a LONG time to come.

I myself will be leaving the IDE technology behind on my next rig which will feature nothing but SATA. However that motherboard comes with 2 IDE slots which could be used if needed.

Nope, the interface is faster, but the transfer would be thae same. Why can't people understand that the interface speed is not the speed drives transfer at...

Not to mention ATA133 isn't really an offical standard. Only Maxtor (and Maxtor clones) use ATA133.

So I guess it's decently good? I was wondering about the cache speed stuff. Is 16mb really really good? because it'd the highest one I could find.

Yeah 16MB is the best you can get for desktop drives. Looks good.

Alright cool, now I need windows .

My friend has basically the same computer except he only has a 9600se and he can play the game smooth on low, but I have a much much faster video card and I can play decently well too. I think the main difference is our HD's. While it takes him a few seconds to verify it takes me 3 - 5 minutes to verify . So I'm guessing a HD would do the trick. I already did two gigs and my mobo is gay, so I can either hav either have the one 1 gig stick or the two 512's (I only have 3 slots.)

Have you tired just defragging your drive? Unless youve got a 5400rpm drive there shouldn't be that much diffrence between his and yours.

I defrag a lot, I did pretty much everything I can, drivers too . And no luck, I'll probably start building a computer soon and I'll get one that supports this and RAID or w/e, so I can get a fast and upgradeable PC. When windows boots it takes like a minute when most peoples computers seem to boot after the bar goes by a few times. The HD came from my old computer that was $300 and it is only 40 gigs . Time for an upgrade?

Is 2mb cache the same as buffer? Because Lavalys says it has a 2mb buffer, I can't find the RPM's, but I think this is the closest thing to my HD:

I think it's 7200 RPM and it says on the site "7200" RPM.
