video card (x600 SE)

Hi,

I have bought a new Dell system recently (2.8GHz dual core CPU, 2G ram and a X600 SE 256M video card). I am thinking about upgrading my video card (around US$200) but I don't know much in this area. Any suggestions?

I have done a quick search in newegg and found the following cards. Are they good cards? Will I be seeing MUCH performance difference once I upgrade with any one of them (or other suggestion)?

I am actually having pretty good experience with my current settings but I don't know how much more I could get for a better card (I am a newbie in games). With my current settings, I can set my resolution to 1280x1024 with everything set to high and I don't see major pauses when playing...

After searching through some of the old posts. Someone mentioned they can play BF2 with 6800XT with everything high at 1600x1200. (it's now only $79 AR)

Does this sound like a good deal? Or will I see better/smoother graphics with the other cards? I do want to try playing BF2 at 1600x1200.

One of the x1800's should serve you best.

Unless you have a good reason, its almost always a better choice to stick to current generation cards.

Those would be the nvidia 7600/7900 series and ATI X1x00 series cards. In the $200 range a 7600GT or x1800GTO are your choices.

As for a 6800XT playing at 1600x1200 full details. Thats complete crap, maybe with really low standards.... "sure 28FPS with dips into the teens is playable" and on small 16 man servers, but in the real world no way the game is playable at the res with high details.


I would personally probably go with the x1800GTO. Its as fast as the 7600, but has better image quality and comes in the same 1 slot cooling footprint.

getting a 7600gt would be dumb. unless you are loaded I would personally stick with the x600 for now. the 7600gt is like a 6800gt. but, the x600 can play the game on medium maybe with a couple settings on high. the 7600gt can play it on almost all high...but is it worth the money for the card you already paid for AND the 7600gt?

IMO, if you have the money: x1800gto.

The x1800gto does better in BF2 than the 7600GT.

yea, If I would've had more money I would've gone with teh x1800 than the 7600GT. Main selling point for the 7600GT was teh rebate!
