    It's prob just overheating. Have him check out the heatsink, as it may have popped a little loose during shipment.

        my clan mate 9600 did the exact same. i took it away cleaned it up (took the heat sink off) Put it in one of my machines and worked like a dream again. BUT put it back in his and it refused to work. For some reason it was the PSU and i just put the same make and model which ran in my older machine! and the graphics card work :S talk about picky graphics cards ill stick with nvidia lol
