I just sold my AGP Sapphire 9800 Pro which was working flawlessly when I was using it. The reciever received it a few days ago and reports having graphical tears across the screen when running any 3d application. How could this have happened? Did it get dameged during UPS ground shipping? He said he tried it in 2 different computers and got the same result.

When a card is dying, it doesn't tear, it causes artifacts and other texture glitches. He is wrong, the card is most likely fine and all he needs to do is enable vsync.Originally posted by RAF92_WarhawkComment

I used to import and sell a lot of this model. The issues people had were commonly related to:
- PSU issues (MOST common), find out what he's running in his system and what his PSU is
- Overclocking issues, this was the second most common, if he's overclocking, he'll need to wind it back to default. This goes for RAM, CPU, or graphics card overclocking
- Get him to check his AGP settings in his BIOS, he could have it set to a certain speed, instead get him to try auto
If he's overclocked his machine or his PSU is too weak he could have permanently damaged the card, unless he tells you this you could be screwed. I've only resurrected one card that got wiped out by system overload and that was by reflashing the GPU.

It is not any problem with the monitor as you wouldn't be able to see it in a screenshot.
My vote is that the card is damaged or overheating, or that it's something else on his end.Comment

Card has to be damaged, same happened to me but much much worse, got a new card in the end. Soon that card will get very annoying. Mine is much worse but it gradually got worse and worse. You can compare the Vertical and Horizontal patterns your's and mine have.
Yes this was taken by camera, and no, there is no monitor problem, its still working fine. My Radeon 9800 pro served me 3 years before it died, well no it still works but it looks like crap and my PC crashes when i play any 3D App. A shame.Comment
