Actually Im getting this in hopes that prices will go way down with the release of AM2 and the g80 series. So maybe I could get it for like $2000 (Im hoping)...This PC should be able to tackle any game for the next three-four years.

Except that new games use new technology. I think that shader model 4.0 is supposed to be supported with the next wave of graphics cards, which game developers will definitely use, as well as Directx 10. Your best bet is to just get the most recent stuff out when you buy it, but you may have to drop to the mid-high range to keep that budget.

$2000 in five months will get you a better PC than $2000 would now. Most CPUs then will be 65nm, and GPU will be 90nm or smaller. Smaller processes cost less to produce and therefore cost less to buy. Regardless, you're always much better off buying up to date technology

Well, the video card can be easily upgraded. From what I read, the Conroe isnt any better then an FX-60 (I think they were both overclocked though when they were testing), and the AM2 socket isnt that good neither.

You won't be able to use that 7900GTX with ANY DX10 games. That means that while you'll be able to get Vista and use it, don't expect to be playing any games once DX10 is in full swing (I give it until mid-2007 at the LATEST). Don't expect a videocard you buy right now to be future-proof in any sense.

A 2.4GHz Dual Core Conroe will be $315. Thats much better than a FX-60 at stock, and can be overclocked close to 3.0GHz on air cooling, judging from the experimental samples over at XtremeSystems.

What socket will it be?

Will it actually run games as good as AMD...

Like a 2.2 ghz Athlon could run a game better then a 3.0 ghz Intel.

The Socket is LGA755. Yes, current motherboards will be able to have a Conroe CPU put into them. Although I think there's somthing about it being only with motherboards that have Intel's 975X or something chipset, I forget. Anyways, the chipset is only for high-end Intel motherboards, though Intel will release lower-end Conroe-compatible chipsets later.

As good as AMD? Bro, Conroe is taking the gaming crown from AMD big time. Like I said, that 2.4GHz Conroe (Dual Core) is better than the FX-60. The first Conroes leaked to enthusiasts have overclocked to over 3.0GHz on air cooling, so who knows, we might be able to do the same.

Roughly, I'd say a 2.0Ghz Conroe is like a 2.4Ghz A64. Roughly.

When/if you put together your liquid cooling system, don't get a reservoir. They are unnecessary and are extremely prone to leaking.

Not to mention everyone has been having problems with that GPU block. Cooling the vram is unnecessary as well. Just get a MCP-60 or a Maze4.
