Dual cards?

Ok, I have a Nvidia GeForce FX 5500 256mb card right now. Can't really play anything other than all low settings.

Now, since I only have PCI slots, and I've been repeatedly told my current card is about as good as I can get for PCI, I was wondering if I could run dual cards? It may be a noob question, but I want better graphics without changing the motherboard or getting a new PC.

I think the 6600GT was the first card to handle SLI.

I dont think SLI (or Crossfire) systems worth to buy unless you want max performance with the 2 very best cards avaliable...

no, dual SLI/Crossfire is PCI Express only, and also requires a special motherboard, and only applies to some cards in the nvidia 6xxx series and ATI Xxx0 series and higher.

That hp is fairly new it's too bad that it does not have a pciE or even an agp port. The rest of the hardware is up to par for bf2. If the board is standard atx and the system has an adequate psu, I would replace the board then suffer with the pci card untill you can get/afford a pciE or agp card.

Yeah, everyone seems surprised it is PCI since it is pretty new and has P4HT. I'll do it eventually, I was just looking for a shortcut, lol.

I feel your pain In 1999 I bought a compaq with i810 chipset it had like 4 pci slots and integrated video, I bought a pci video card to play Q3 arena LOL.

this WAS a technology called SLi released by 3dfx in 1998. it used dual PCI slots. now I doubt you can get it, as it is probably crazy to configure etc, but you never know. this is an article with a short paragraph. maybe you could research it a little, nothings impossible.

Yeah, but the best cards you could get would still only have 12mb of video ram, and they would be waaaay too slow to play bf2.

What the OP should do is pick up a new motherboard, and probably PSU.

He would probably need a special PSU for his computer. Most HP/Compaq/Dell/etc desktops use different PSUs than only work with their mobos, and the other way around.

His psu could be 24 pin... indeed i never thought of that. Plus the pinout of power switch and othe connectors can be different too like a proprietary connector to the board. I doubt the oems are doing this much customising outside of bios these days though. Look on the Mobo for some manufacturing ID my pal with the emachine has a FIC nforce 410 board in it lol. Best advice at this point is to build yer own next time. Look for a bios or if socketed flip the bios chip.

And as sackynut says 3dfx introduced SLI but under different tems as " Scan Line Interleave" albeit Nvidia bought them out shortly after. The Nvidia version of SLI in thier terms is dubbed "Scalable Link Interface" Interesting hey, I would probly put some pesos on the actual technnology used by nvidia to be closer to 3dfx's terminology. even though you dont want to get a new motherboard and video card like a 7600gt and you will be set for a while. and the p4800e deluxe is only like 125.
