inadequete PSU cause lag?

I'm running a 6800GS with 2gigs of RAM. I have my settings on all medium with 2xAA. The thing is I haven't been able to get the 470watt PSU I'm looking at yet. So I'm still using my 250 watt PSU. Would this cause lag? I've been biting the dust in the Air at some pretty bad moments cause of the damn lag.

The only instance I can think of a PSU causing lag would be i it wasnt feeding your graphics card enough juice, and the card defaulted to its low power state. Usually you would see a warning across the screen, or the computer would even restart or crash.

Other than that, if your computer turns on, runs and plays games... you DONT have a PSU problem, and a new one will do nothing for your lag.

Think about it logically.... this is like saying if a better power outlet will run your toaster better. No not really, its more of a "it works" or it "doesnt work" proposition.

250 watt? That is very small. You really should get that 470 or bigger.

Im running a 550 with an eye towards the 1 Kilowatt Power and Cooling for my next system.

I'm not sure about lag, but I do know that not enough power can crash your ocmputer completely. I would think that just barely not enough juice would lag your system slightly. But no matter what, 270 is a very very tiny PSU. I would get a larger one just to be on the safe side.

Make sure you remember to buy a trusted brand name. Lousy PSU's is a real fast way to fry your pc.

I am no expert, but i would not say LAG, a performance decrease yes, because your card would clock itself down, but lag because of the PSU that's a big NO.
Lag is cause by internet connection.

A slow connection will cause lag yes. But before I upgraded to a 6800GS, all my lag came from my $hitty FPS. So not having a decent card and decent FPS will most definately cause lag.

If your PSU is not sufficient to run your graphics card, windows will spawn hundreds of error messages all over your screen telling you so.
My friend tried to stick my old 5900xt in his machine, and he didnt have enough power. Playin an avi file in windowed mode it would survive, but pushing it to fullscreen would result in these hundreds of messages stating that the card was being downclocked due to lack of power.

well you might now have clocked down yet.... which you should have. but with a 6800gs and 2gb of ram you are probably slowly (or maybe not slowly) killing your system and your parts, especially your card. I would highly recommend getting that new psu soon. the PSU isnt meant to give you good framerates, its meant to keep your system running good.

How's he killing he's parts??? the only thing that's going to go out the door is the PSU nothing else.

when you have a PSU that isnt powerful enough (thats the best I could word it) and you have lots of parts, or parts that require more power it can damage it. its not nessescary killing it, but it MAY BE damaging it.

Well i dont think parts will get damage by insufficient power, is the other way around, and over voltage can cause damage, but not sufficient power will just cause reliability problems, most likely to cause reboots if any.

Yeah we really have to define "lag" here. Internet "lag" certainly points to something different then hardware "lag" (crappy graphics card, things running in the background, etc).

I would suspect you are playing on fairly high ping servers. Try playing on a server that has 40 ms or less of a ping, and see if you still have the problem. Also, check to see if your Hard Drive light is blinking or solid during these times of "lag". Your HD may by processing some other program in the background or BF2 may be using the pagefile if you dont have enough system RAM.
