I am kind of nervous on buying power supplies. Can anyone help me in picking one out? My case is a MicroATX and I need the power supply to be able to power the 6600 GT (I read one of the comments on newegg stating "The only thing you will have to get that it says you dont need is a 4-pin power cord to plug into the card. Or if you have a power cord that will reach (mine was really close to reaching)." Take a look at the power supply I had posted and ask me if that would work. Yet again, thanks for the help and especially how quickly I got replies!!!

The most annoying thing about the dell mobo is just that, and not only that but some cases do not fit the PSU right. you would have to make cuts in the back of the case. They always offer you the PSU's on PCpower and cooling specially made for Dells.
I have a dell 8400 that came with a 350 Watt PSU and its powering my X1800XT, a Hauppage PCI Dual PVR TV Tuner, Sound blaster audigy2ZS, 2 sticks of 1GB ram, and everything u see in my sig.... I dont know how or why, but I think dell under rates their PSU's a little bit.

OK now then, my updated upgrade list is as follows:
-Albatron Geforce 6600GT
-Silencer 410 Dell-2 PSU
-Kingston 1 gig RAM (PC2700)

which brings my total to a disappointing: $335

Absolutely any suggestions on how to decrease this price?

Edit: OK the best plan I can come up with is borrow my sister's 512 RAM until I can upgrade that also. As for the rest of the money, I'm sure my mom will cover me :P

Finally (boy its been a long night lol), how does the 6600 GT 128 MB compare with the 9600 Pro 256MB?

More RAM on the card DOES NOT mean it will be afster LOL.

That 6600GT will SMOKE that 9600pro.

Hey, I'm sorry for bumping this again (its only been less than 24 hours and its already on the 3rd page of threads :laugh: ) but my sister started to yell at me when I had told her my upgrading plans. She says that getting an AGP card is a waste of money and that I should just buy a new motherboard for PCIe. Wouldnt this be EXTREMELY complicated considering I have a Dell (deffinately not made for much upgrading T_T)? Wouldnt I have to buy a new processor and RAM for the new mobo (I cannot find a mobo that matches my current specs) which'll be a heck of a lot more money than just the current upgrade I had in mine? Please help me out, because honestly, I'd hate to screw around with the mobo in this crappy thing.

Hey buddy, the build you have there under "Upgraded PC specs" will eat up BF2 NO probs.
To give you an idea, my PC is:
GeForce 6600 128mb
512mb RAM
AMD 3000 # 1.8GHZ

and it runs BF2 at about an average of 80 FPS with settings at: 1024 X 768, everything low apart from effects and resolution which are at medium. My draw distance is at 100 %.
The game looks sweet and never suffers frame rate issues when explosions are going off etc.
The only issue have is that my load times take at least 1.30 and I get serious startup lag which takes a while to go away. But that is only because I have just 512 MB of RAM.

But he has a 9600 pro...ati...6600 nvidia is much more powerful.

Put it this way, my comp is exact same specs except 256 more ram and a 9800 pro and I run half med half low settings, average fps is 30 while on ground, 20 while in air...and SF just lags to hell.

Alcorr, sorry you misunderstood. The 9600 Pro was my first upgrade choice, not my actual spec, until I was shown the 6600GT. Please check my post a couple before these that are my updated upgrade plans. :)

Basically, a new mobo can still use old ram and processor, but its probably not worth it, for the 100+ you save on the mobo you can spend more on a nicer AGP card, and then you would spend more money on the difference between an AGP and nice pcie, so basically no...its not worth it imo...your processor and ram would prolly hold back a new pcie card.

Ah almost my exact words to my sister! :p Yea I figured it'd be more rational to just upgrade my video card on the mobo I have. Especially considering I'll be buying a gaming computer in 2-3 years (trying to buy a $1000-$1500 computer while saving for a car on $1000 a summer = not fun)

I was going to just get a new psu, I was in exact same position as you were too, but I couldn't find any psu powerful enough to run my 9800pro and fit in the small current 180 watt psu slot.

So I kinda rebuilt my comp with new mobo, case, psu, cpu fan, and the 9800 pro.

This is why im never buying another comp again....no more being wtfrippedoff by dell....its all self building for me from now on...

I can't tell you what to do, depending on current size of your psu slot/bay you might be able to get a new one, but I dunno, mine was way too small for the normal psus...thats what I get buying substandard parts from IBM...

Edit: I just noticed that the 6600 GT is only a 128 MB card, does it still kick the 9600 pro's (which is 256 mb) butt? :laugh:

The amount of memory on those cards is largely irrelevant, they wont utilise any more than 128MB, memory only makes a difference on the real high end cards.

The chipset of the 6600 is better than the 9600, and thats what counts. To put it in a better perspective, It'd be like comparing a AMD64 3800+ with 1GB of RAM against a celeron 2GHz with 2GB of RAM.

The last upgrade I MAY consider before buying that gaming computer is upgrading the processor to something around 3.0-3.2 ghz and maybe dual layering 2 1 Gig RAMs. Would this ever be worth it in like a year? Or would that money be better spent on that gaming pc (keeping in mind my specs after the intial upgrade)

I have a 6600gt and play on 1024x768 all medium 2xAA and get 60ish FPS. Get a 6600gt....

Ouch thats gotta hurt. Well be happy you can play BF2 :laugh: After May 19th when I receive my prize money I'll be buying the PSU and video card prolly. I may have to wait a week to buy the RAM.
