    bf2:// protocol how to install...

hi, i downloaded an MSI installer which should do the job for me but it only starts up the game without launching it -> i keep using gamespy arcade.
although it would be helpful to store my fav servers on my webpage to play with mates...

    Have you seen this?

I use ASE to keep track of servers/buddies.

You need to add your playername and password to the command.

Use the 1.03 fix for joining that they have listed on the bottom of the page.

Fix for 1.03 joining in bf2protocol:
Add the following for parameters in bf2protocol.exe (the one line that you can fill out):

        +playerName YZNAME +playerPassword YZPASS

So if you use default parameter it would look like this:
        +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +playerName YZNAME +playerPassword YZPASS

YZNAME being the username which is used to sign in to your battlefield account and YZPASS being the password. Note the upper/lower-case characters.
Also note that the playername must match "exactly" as it is in your profile as it is case-sensitive. So "myname" and "Myname" are a mismatch during the login process.

The readme in your bf2 directory says:
If you wish to reconfigure your parameters, simply run BF2Protocol.exe without any parameters.
So, go to your bf2 directory (default is C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2) and doubleclick the file "bf2protocol.exe". You can change the info in the popup.

You can also change the setting using regedit, but this could be dangerous since any changes (mistakes also) to the registry are saved atm. There is no option to undo. The location is at "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\BF2Protocol" and double-click "BF2_Parameters".

I am kind of confused by the description. Does this program juest allow you to connect to serers in game or what? I have had this file for a long time and I dont know if I need it or not.

This program only allows you to connect to a server via a webpage. It loads BF2 and takes you directly to the server (well...it's supposed to..I haven't used it in a LOOOOOONG time).

You cannot be already in BF2 and use the BF2:// protocol to take you to a new server. Simply copy (control C) and paste (control V) the IP into the 'connect to IP' box.
