Win XP Pro, OR x64 edition

I've been running a trial verison of xp x64 bit edition, and i have an Athalon64 3200+. The trial is expirering soon, and i cant decide, should i go ahead and buy xp 64 bit? or should i go to xp pro? I can run bf2 fine on x64, but many of my devices i.e. joystick, printer, camera, and other certain programs don't suppor 64 bit.

No real incentive to go x64 right now, stick with XP.

yeah, well x64 IS pro, just a 64 bit version. but yeah no real reason to go 64 unless you do like intense floating point calculations and junk.

Go XP PRO, no questions. The 64 bits version will just give you problems with drivers, .....

yea, the only real thing im concerned about is performance, i do have a 64 bit processor, so i feel like im limitting it by running xp pro, is there a noticible performance difference between pro and x64?

negligible performance increases in a few 64bit native professional apps... General users, and even gamers have no reason to go 64bit right now.

The ONLY reason to justify 64bit is if you want 4GB of ram or more. 32bit Windows maxes out ~3.5GB of usable ram, and a 32bit OS cannot theoretically address more than ~4GB of ram.

If someone is dead set on having 4GB+ of ram, and or runs many 64bit native applications and wants the maximum performance, go 64bit. Otherwise its a waste of time, and your not running a slower system at all.

I would say there is no need, unless you use more than 4GB of RAM (4294967296 bytes) And not many of us need that, i would say just stick to the 32bit editon, you know it runs properly.. or as properly as windows can run.

Mind you.. you could go all out, get the 64bit edition just so you could use up to 17592186044.416GB of RAM.. :p

I went from the x64 back to Pro and didn't miss x64.

I recommend you stick with xp 32 bit since not everything runs correctly on xp 64 bit. Also vista is coming out soon so save the cash for that.

i bet all those people who say dont go for x64 havnt tried it.

It is ALOT faster than the original 32 bit OS's. And you preparing for the future!
