PC will not boot.

Well this morning i go to turn on my pc and it gets to tthe windows loading screen and the bar goes across 2-3 times then it just reboots. I cant get into safemode or anything. I think my boot files are corrupted. Any solutions besides whipin the hd and reinstallin everything?

If you can get ahold of a copy of Winternals ERD, that will probably help you.

Did you install any new drivers for any hardware recently?

Boot with winxp cd.
Press R for repair
At the dos prompt
Type chkdsk /p
This will restore any win boot files that are fooked

Ok well now the recovery console wants me to enter a administrator password and i have no damn idea what that pass is. Anyone got any idearS?

are you using XP Home , if you are then I cant log on as Admin also , reformat and install XP Pro and you are then the Administrator the way it should be.

Have you tried your regular password? You had to create an admin password when you installed xp. If that doesn't work, try out BartPE.

I would definitly repair.. but beware repairing can cause registry errors and problems. I have repaired once and it seems fine, thats just what I heard, beware.

ALright it worked out great doin the repair. THanks for the help guys. It turns out all i had to do for the pass word is put nothing there and hit enter.

Way to offer advice that has no bearing on the situation.

Once windows is loading, anything in the BIOS that would be messing up is pretty much out of the picture.
