    Resolution

    Hi guys,
got my new screen today, 26" widescreen!

I have used the shortcut trick to load battlefield (editing the target) but when i launch the game it crashes back to the desktop.

How do i get it too run?
    Thanks

    Re: Resolution

What do you mean by the shortcut trick? Are you talking about adding startup commands to the target (if so what command)? And this started happening after you made the change?
BTW that screen should be fun once you get it running

Yea cant wait to get it working !!

      Anyway,

the shortcut thing is when you right click the battlefield 2 shortcut, properties and edit the target.
      Mine now reads:

      "C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1280 +szy 768

      found it on tweakguides

        Re: Resolution

I understand that BF2 will not run on 16:9 aspect ratio. Does your video card support the resolution of your wide screen? Making a short-cut for BF2 to run wide-screen format may run on some but most have problem with stability. Go to newegg buyers' reviews who bought wide-screen and see if you can contact those person/s successfully run BF2 in wide-screen format. I read some bragging to have some success specifically BF2 and others running at wide-screen settings.

          I have a 512MB X1900XT, which does allow me to run 16:9.
I will have a look around on newegg now.
          Thanks

            Re: Resolution

Well I'm not really familiar with widescreen but I did a little searching and I found someone who had a similar problem and figured it out. Try this: Find the file ...\my documents\battlefield 2\profiles\default\video.con Open it in a text editor and there is a line "VideoSettings.setResolution 1280x1024@60Hz" Though the res will probably show what you had it last set to. Back this up and try changing the res to 1280x768 there and save. If that doesn't work try adding a little random text at the beginning of that line to make it disregard the line and default to what you set in the target, that could work.

                  Re: Resolution

Cant remember what it is but you can add a refresh rate to the command line. If your refresh rate was set to 75hz it still will be until you tell it otherwise and it could be that your monitor only does 60hz.

                      Re: Resolution

just delete the video.con file and see if that works. BF2 will automatically make a new default one when you load it up

                        Re: Resolution

Yeah I had the exact same problem with running mine at 1680 x 1050, on my 20.1 inch, it was just a simple issue of going into the video card control panel and lowering the refresh rate to 60 hz, thats all I did, as it seems when I created the 1680 profile i put it at 75 Hz instead of 60hz, my card is a nVidia, but our problems are the same.

If nothing else works remove the profile folder and try to start BF2. Then make your alterations.
